Humble to permanently remove all Linux and Mac versions of games from Humble Trove

Humble Bundle logo 2.png

As Humble changes how its Choice bundles work, there's going to be a certain adverse effect for customers. Having notably offered Linux and Mac versions of games since even its very first Humble Indie Bundle, the cross-platform offerings will be limited going forward, at least, when it comes to Humble Trove.

Humble Trove is a perk given to Humble Choice subscribers, and comes with over 70 DRM-free titles for players to access. Usually, these games, if they have a Linux or Mac version available, will be included as an option. However, starting on February 1, as Humble moves to its new launcher, all non-Windows DRM-free versions of games offered through Humble Trove will no longer be available to download.

Humble has notified users by telling them they have a limited time to grab the Linux and Mac versions of any games in the Humble Trove, before they lose access for good. Meanwhile, the Windows versions of the DRM-free games will still be available, through the new Humble launcher as part of the Humble Games Collection, which appears to exist as a replacement to Trove, and will be an app exclusive to Windows.

I've been playing games I haven't paid for for a long, long time (my cousins had an ISEPIC cart for their C64, I always pronounced it "i-sep-ic" but of course it's "ice pick", I just figured that out lately) but for the last 20 years or so, I've paid for what I wanted, after I figured out I wanted it. Restricting my choices for paying just reduces my willingness to pay. And I don't *have* to pay, but I do.

People game on Mac OS? Lol.
You know I actually remember a couple of years back I gamed on a mac to basically emuate tons of stuff and while I do have good memories on playing Majoras Mask on OpenEmu2 I do very much still remember running Mario Sunshine at a masterclass 20fps on Dolphin.

While Macs have been getting better at running emulators with the M1 chips but it isn't still very ideal at the cost anyways, you can get much cheaper then Macs with better performance.

But in general even now MAC OS isn't really good for gaming for decades now, this is probably because of Apple's didn't want their OS to be used for gamers.

But then once PC's became popular to game on Apple lost a potential share compared to all of those purchased Windows licenses.

Yeah, I know better than to keep my mouth shut on this topic, apparently people took my half-joke too seriously, but Apple products are still too damned overpriced.

So they're removing the "Choice" part of "Humble Choice", and now they're removing platform support...can we get rid of the "Humble" part too, while we're at it?

Sure, Macs aren't really known for their gaming prowess, but that's all some people have, and the macOS itself is so much more user-friendly and comfortable than Windows; meanwhile, Linux is often used by more 'geeky' people, who like to have a more customisable OS. Why prevent these two audiences from playing games, huh?
Just seems like a real bone-headed decision, willingly sacrificing profits from these two camps.

Definitely. Especially with the MacBooks, and don't get me wrong, they have made major strides with the M1 chip to be better then intel but they still have a long ways to go until their high cost is justified and bought by anyone other then invested into "mUh eCosYsTem" or brand loyalty.

Especially for us gamers we can still get so much better for less even with the Graphics Card Shortages that we've been experiencing for the past 2 years or so, PC or emulator wise.

While I do like MacOS and want it to be supported as well alongside Linux it all boils down to Apple (or valve) giving a fuck about making it a good gaming platform alongside persuading devs to think that supporting MacOs is well worth it.

MacOS also has a problem of being unsupported much quickly then Windows due to their yearly release, I bet that
OS X El Capitan is more unsupported then Windows 10 despite both operating systems being released in the same year.

Worst of all I just don't like MacOS only on Apple's platform, I wish they would release it on every platform to download for every computer, I just can't justify spending thousands of dollars just to get that one operating system when Windows works just fine.

Ah well, i'll just go the hackintosh route or linux virtualization route using something like Manjaro.

I was referring to anti-consumer invasive measures, not Linux platform removal, nor DRM things. LOL.
Yeah, but that's how Steam had always been. They didn't try to change. They sure as hell never flipped on their philosophy. So, no. You can't say the same for Steam.

YES.

Until a new major innovation in iPhone tech comes out, I'm not upgrading my phone.
I stopped at XR because it was affordable and FaceID was cool so why not.
But nothing good has happened in like 4 years.
Who the heck goes through four generations of products only to add:
11: A second splitoff camera
12: A third camera
SE2: only 1 camera, touch ID, and maybe an OK processor
13: replaced the third camera with a fat-arse cinema camera

The iPhone 16 finna look like a Nikon D3500.
Man, apple must be fucking SOBBING over the fact that wg481 wont buy things from them, how will they ever recover from this

This is pretty amusing to read, after being forced to use Linux 2 weeks ago to flash a bios to an old phone, and falling in love with Linux, to the port where I replaced Windows with it. lol

That and Windows 11 was such a fucking let down.

I don't get why people shit on Macs. They aren't good for gaming but not everyone uses their computers for gaming. They're expensive but at least since the M1 they're hardly underpowered. Are people that hate them stuck in 2015? I don't like them myself but if someone wants a plug and play laptop what's wrong with that? The hackintosh community is large so clearly they're doing something right to make technically skilled people spend time getting their proprietary locked down OS running on non-apple hardware.

I still stand by my stance that functionally speaking, a Mac is not superior to a Windows PC, just saying.

A mac person does not know what drivers are. I think that fact that they don't need to suggests that you might be off in some respect. lol
