Gaming I dont like Donkey Kong Country Returns/Tropical Freeze?

As the title said. i dont find it really amusing, even though im a fan of original games.
returns and TF feel weird. They are nice games by it self, but they feel like the developers never ever played original trilogy.

First of all originals felt more realistic.
For example the enviorment is not jigly and alive, colors are not vibrant like some kids show and sun do not dance to the music smiling.
Trees and grass do not swing to the music also and the original trilogy does not feel like Looney Toones.
In trilogy enviorment is more realistic, and for example rock looks and feels like a rock. Yes there are exagarations in characters also but they all feel realistic for what they are.
Music is also very forgetable compared to original trilogy where they blend perfectly and is not, again, kiddy like and felt real and fuffilling.
Main menu in returns and tropical freeze feels like its drawn and animated in flash.

Ok so there is more but id like to hear from you guys, what do you think and how do you compare original trilogy to returns/tropical freeze?

To me, it feels like creators of returns/tropical freeze never played and felt original games, like they where clueless.

David Wise, who did the music for the original trilogy (at least the atmospheric tunes), also did the music for tropical freeze. personally, I love the original trilogy as well as the returns and tropical freeze.

Its strange that same person worked on music, but its not as nearly as memorable or good as the trilogy and it feels nothing like original games.
Anyway the point was that originals and new games are like completly different games.

New games feel more like jungle beat than the original.

I like Tropical Freeze

I like donkey kong, and TF is not DK game, its A game imo that featires kongs. As i said its more like jungle beat than originals.

well, most of the songs are remixes of the original trilogy's. I know Miyamoto of Mario hated dkc when it came out. he was just pissed that westerners could make a better game than the Japanese. I think that trilogy is far better than world.

Well better or not is subjective. I personally think originals are far better, yes, but im surprised that no one points out that new games are nothing like original games that they are based on. its like spirit of DKC is lost.

They all talk how good new games and i get it, but does no one noticed really??

from what I can remember (could be wrong), Rare is in England, and is now owned by Microsoft, so you won't ever be seeing a dkc game from them again. Retro, I believe, is stationed in Texas. they're the ones who made returns and tropical freeze.

The guy who made AM2R has nothing to do with any metroid games owned by nintendo but he managed to perfectly capture feeling and workings of a metroid game and to make better game than nintnedo it self.
I mean If a rare made DKC and Retro failed to capture true spirit of a DKC game than they failed imo.
They just made a good game but a bad DKC game. They just dont know the game, they are clueless imo.

Again, im just surprised no one points that out. Others could make DKC remakes and sequels but to feel like DKC.
I mean There are even fan projects that made great job in remaking the trilogy.

doubtful they'd make a remake of dkc 2. dkc and dkc2 are both on the snes catalogue of nso. because of that, they probably won't bother. and, as I said, Miyamoto hated dkc (at least 1). his exact words were something like "all Westerers care about is graphics." the game is better than Super Mario World, and he just couldn't accept it is my opinion.

btw, there's some sort of Rare collection of their nes/snes games on the xbox one I believe. it includes the infamous Battletoads. I bought the original cartridge, and I did manage to beat the Turbo Tunnel.

I only liked the first game on SNES, the other two didn't keep the good level flowing of the first game, they instead opted more for exploration. I just chalk it up to bad level design on the other two. And DK Returns had some of the WORST collision detection of ANY DK game I have ever played. I died sooooo many times trying to jump on the first few enemies, it's ridiculous. I'm glad someone finally made this thread, because the DK games are lacking these days.

I've been playing New Super Mario Bros Wii and the Wii U one as well. this has got me to load up Tropical Freeze. I'm going to see how long it takes to get to 99 lives by going through all levels, including Bopopolis. hopefully, I don't die there, because that's a live horde.

You're not alone, my friend.
I despised both Returns and Tropical Freeze.
I went through the entirety of them, and found them mediocre at best.

If at all I think none of the new DK games really capture what made the originals good at all, and I still think DKC3 was when the originals started to decline.

Even if Wise did the OST, I really don't care as much for the OST in those games, they are either rehashes of the original's OSTs or rearrangements of those that somewhat push through the meh feeling of it all.

I didn't care for them. I changed my Tropical Freeze disk for Arkham City, way better game imo, one of the best decisions I made.

Loved the originals, but Tropical Freeze is definitely the most fun entry of the entire series. Totally understand not having much love for Returns though.

The game is nice. The music is excellent, every track of it.
The same composer, David Wise, have done the soundtrack for PS4 game Snake Pass, which is excellent as well.

an interesting thing I figured out on one of my playthroughs is that each stage in world 6 (the final world) of tropical freeze is a throwback to each world in returns, since each world in returns is park of dkc island (where you end up). I like returns more, because I hate having to go through a stage more than once to get the secret exit. I think it's why I don't like going through nsmb u more than the wii nsmb. I know where all the stars are in nsmb u, so I collect them all while going through the game. I don't have them memorized in nsmb u, so I just go through the game naturally.

Completely agree with TC, cannot get into dkcr or tropical at all, the atmosphere and playability is something alien to the original.

weird, the opinions on gbatemp are really one sided. I love both returns and tropical freeze,those 2 games are some of the best plattformer ever made. I'm not a big fan of the original trilogy, the gameplay on the new games is so much better.

I think it's the way the games are designed, new dk and rayman both have a time run mode so the games I more played like a rhythm game. if you try to master those, I think that's moment those games really start to shine.
