nintendo being lazy again.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Dragonball Fighterz and Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online use the same engine! Obviously they must be ports!

Ducktales used the same engine as Mega Man 2... Must be a Port!
lets totally forget about assets.

Unless your computer is crap and you can't enjoy it.
Even then, probably 2/3rds of the games shown in their conference will also be coming to PS4, and about 1/3rd to Switch. You have to REALLY love Gears of War and Forza to care about XB1 at all.

Now maybe if it brought Crackdown sooner, better marketing, less focus on the "home experince" and more on the games themselves, then maybe it would be a different story.
Yeah Crackdown was a big turn off to me because of the overused (and overenthusiastic) Terry Crews VO. I've never felt like it was a system seller as an IP, either.

definitely implying that's the only requirement for something to be a port. (which it isn't).

Also your logic is flawed. The inversion of a true statement is not true. The only other statements that are true is the contrapositive.

Pokemon Stadium 2 is an N64 port of the N64's Pokemon Stadium, which is a port of Pokemon Snap but with some new mechanics and characters. Assets are recycled though so they can't be considered sequels.
Super Smash Bros Melee also uses Pokemon Stadium's assets so that's a Pokemon Snap port aswell.

Pretty sure he was being facetious/sarcastic.

regardless, I think its more or less how you treat the topic. It's been a debate I've been thrown in quite some time. Some people treat the definition of port for all games the same, others treat it differently. I personally treat fighting games on its own regard because making mechanic changes, adding stages, changing UI to some people means its a new game. Historically speaking, that means games like versions of street fighter in its numbered sequences (e.g 2 to final challengers, 4 to ultra 4, MvC3 to UMvC3) are considered "new games" if you go with the definition that this game is not a port, because the games above kept a lot of content from the original, but made some key changes to various aspects of the game.

It is a straight up port. Same engine, ame graphics, just added characters, stages and a few mechanics improvements.

Yet people still will praise the fuck out of sakurai for being lazy.

Lazy... Sakurai?

What's the point of reinventing the wheel when SSB for Wii U was still "current gen" for the switch? None, absolutely none.

And yet people here and on the internet were all "hoping" for a brand new game, which never made any sense in the first place. What they did here - a 4.5 - was the right solution, there's absolutely no doubt about it.

Where were people calling Sm4sh a Brawl port? After all, they're really not that dissimilar, and WiiU is basically two Wiis ducktaped together. They changed a couple minor things that might be considered to have a major impact, but that certainly seems to be the case in the jump from Sm4sh to Smash Ultimate as well.

Yee. My expectations were too high with this one and the whole nintendo presentation.

I really should go back and edit every single post into a -snip-.

Complain about an unfinished and only showcased product! How dare do they make things I don't like?!
I just don't understand how anyone who has enjoyed previous Smash games could not like what they see. Probably the best and largest character roster ever in a fighting game.
