Super Mario World localization prototype discovered

Game preservation group Forest of Illusion has gotten their hands on a fun prototype build of a game you might have heard of before: Super Mario World. The beta is dated October 25, 1990--a month prior to the game's release in Japan, and ten months before its eventual release in North America. It also happens to be a build of the game specifically designed for the localization team at Nintendo of America, and features lots of differences from the final release. Forest of Illusion, partnered with The Gaming Historian, published a YouTube video breaking down most of the details from the prototype, including script changes and debug modes. They have also dumped the prototype, preserving a part of gaming history forever.

It's unbelievable that Super Mario World came out 32 years ago. The amount of polish and care put into that game make it feel like it hasn't aged at all from its original release. Good to see more stuff come out of this although this prototype is underwhelming having so few changes from the original release. I hope that maybe some day they dig up and dump the prototypes given to the press in 1989 - that would be one of gaming's holy grails alongside if we ever got our hands on Mother 3 N64.

Only thing drive me crazy is all these new horror games nowadays is its so dark, all time. I can't even play them. I understand they trying to create spooky but be creative a little, not just darkness with pop out scare scenes.
