Nintendo officially confirms Switch successor console, announces Nintendo Direct for next month

nitennzomg.png

While rumors had been floating about rampantly as to the future plans of Nintendo, the President of the company, Shuntaro Furukawa, made a brief statement confirming that Nintendo is indeed working on a successor to the Nintendo Switch. Capping off Nintendo's quarterly financial report was an announcement that the unveiling of Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch would happen before the end of this fiscal year (March 2025). In the same message, Furukawa also announced that a Nintendo Direct is on the way sometime in June--though it will focus solely on latter-half 2024 Nintendo Switch titles, and will not feature any information regarding the successor system.

Current rumor reports state that a "Nintendo Switch 2" system was scheduled to be released around holiday 2024, though the hardware was delayed internally, to make sure that the upcoming system had as many quality launch titles as possible. Bloomberg has reported that Nintendo has been supplied with a notable amount of 8-inch Foxconn LCD screens, implying that the new Nintendo hardware may be very similar to the Nintendo Switch.

I really want to see that happen, just think of the technological achievement it would be since the Steam Deck hasn’t quite gotten that yet.

Exciting!
My Switch from 2017 is so worn out. Both my joy-cons have stick drift, I've drilled a hole in the right one for a RCM button, the screen is cracked. I only use it in docked mode nowadays, so a new one could be fun!

This is all I have in my mind for the nee Nintendo Switch Successor. Y'all calling it the switch 2 still, and i still won't take those words, and wait for an actual console to be released under a new and better title.

I just can't wait to see the specs for it being relatively similar and backwards compatible to the Switch lol. All I'll say is that tbis console BETTER have backwards compatibility because they literally can't avoid the Switch's initial success and whatnot. I'll also be keeping an internal clock in my mind to see how long it'll take for someone to make an emulation device on PC that will support this new console.

So it's one of the most easy-to-meme things in existence but what do we actually think in terms of name?

Will they be as straightforward as Sony for once and just go with Switch 2? Or are we going to see a new 'New' family?

"The new Nintendo Switch 2, comes with slightly bigger & brighter screen, joycons prolly the same, a %10 cpu, gpu, teraflops increase blah blah etc. and there's Switch Virtual Console (or BC) where you have to rebuy all your Switch games again, or you can just join the new Nintendo Switch Online 2 to access some of those games on our eShop"..

As we all know, Nintendo consoles from 16bit upwards go 'good' 'bad' 'good' 'bad' 'good' 'bad'.

SNES -> GameCube -> Wii -> WiiU -> Switch -> Switch 2.

I fully expect this to be another WiiU or DSi. Nobody will see any reason to buy a Switch 2 if it is simply an upgrade to the Switch.

And I also have my ps3

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea ps3 is a beast still to today compared to most "sticks"
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you just want pi for emulation no point when Anbernic releases new shit every two seconds
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.
