Hacking Misc Exit GameCube game in nintendont vwii

Does anyone know how to exit a gamecube game without restarting the console? If I use their shortcut from the github it just black screens and becomes unresponsive. (Using official adapter / gc controller).

Any help would be appreciated. Currently it's very annoying switching between games.
