i tried to search but it's not clear if the java version can cross play with other devices the info i found was before a major update but might be still right.
you might want to send a ticket to mojang before buying the game if you are interested in playing online with other people..
otherwise, java is the original game and its the one where all the mods where designed, so you can mod the shit out of it -
