Is it normal to stay up 2 days coding without eating or sleeping? How common is this?

Not in terms of "is it normal for a human person to do this" but in terms of, how common is this among programmers? When I'm coding, it's like an addiction, I can't stop for anything. I barely even notice that I'm hungry. thirsty or tired. But I've been wondering how common this is. Do any of you also experience this?

Obviously, it's not healthy, and shouldn't be done regularly. But how common is it?

Edit: I've just been told by someone on Reddit that this could be an ADHD thing. I guess I'll add that to my list of "reasons I probably have ADHD" (there are a bunch)

Don't know if it's normal for programmers, but it's certainly similar to gamers binging on their favorite games for hours. Anything in excess can't be good. Set a timer on for a few hours, and when it rings, take a break, get some fresh air, eat something. You'll feel better, and more in control of your body.

Perfectly normal when you are early to mid 20's. I just can't do it anymore now I am older  .....but aside from the "late nights" then yeah it's still totally normal to loose all sense of everything arround you while coding! Especially if you are in a "flow" and it all just works! If there are many errors....I get frustrated and bored quickly though.

I'm in my early 30s, but I remember being the same way 10 years ago too. Haven't changed much.

Totally normal. This is true dedication.
But yeah, please eat something every now and then.
It's even more normal if you are a nintendo employee

Sometimes when you get really into something everything else around you just stops. It shows true dedication. Though this might be a little too much lol.
