First vaccination today! Whooo! :D

Yup: as the title says: this afternoon I got my first vaccination shot. Fucking FINALLY!!! :D

On a rational scale, I can't complain. Just over 52-55% of Belgian adults are now vaccinated, so my wait isn't unusual. still: it wasn't fun seeing the treshold of 50% pass and not thinking that I'm not considered important enough in this society (stupid elderly). On the other hand: my invitation was right on the mark considering my age (40), and people the same age that I know have it in this rough same date range (it depends on the village/city, really).

But credit where credit's due: the invitation was clear, you could refuse if you wanted to, after applying it told me where to go and what to bring, it was nearby (around 20 minutes by bike) and though it's a local area, it was clearly labeled. The volunteers were friendly but efficient, there was mild enthusiasm (note: my parents still live in Antwerp, where they apparently hold some kind of continuous party...I didn't have that) and it all went smooth. I gave blood two days ago, and that stung like a musquito. This was hardly anything.

my medicine's moderna, btw. It has a shorter term for the second shot, which is set for the tenth of July.

Astrazenica's known to cause a mild headache, but moderna is relatively unknown. If I hadn't paying attention I wouldn't have noticed, but it's true: my left arm's a bit sore around the shoulder. Nothing important (heck...I painted our attic for the rest of the afternoon, as well as carry our daughter around and did all other things I do on a normal basis).

So...I don't think this testimony will convert many in doubt, but ey...I'm just voicing my enthousiasm. I'm finally vaccinated. Wheee!!! :D

Sidenote: the first shot's expected to give roughly 60% immunity as well as greatly reduce the most dangerous effects of the virus. It also only really kicks in after around 14 days (somewhat less for younger people). So it's not like I'm immediately in the clear.

Congratulations.
Something similar is happening here in my country, first, they're vaccinating all the elderly (60+) and just this month it started vaccination of people 40 to 59.
It's said that by september people 30 to 39 will be vaccinated and next year the rest of the population (29 and younger)
So for me is like, I still have 1+ year of waiting.

Here we're getting Sputnik V and Pfizer's.
Moderna's and Aztra's are not being used by popular demand because we've had deadly cases of people reacting negatively to them.

Still is good to know it's going to be nearly over for you, and remember that even then, getting shot doesn't mean total invulnerability.
So keep taking care of yourself!

Congrats! :D
I got inoculated with Pfizer's vaccine in April, and it's truly a liberating feeling. Being able to see friends and family without as much worry has been great. I still try not to tempt fate, though; I'm not sure I'd go to large parties or anything yet.

Now just don't get COVID in the next couple of weeks! :P

First dose just gave me a dead arm for two days.

Second dose still gave me a dead arm, but also kicked my ass with a day-long fever and body aches. Took Ibuprofen and felt better. But I let the fever run it's course for a full day so my body got some training in.

Congratulations! Hope the side effects don't kick your ass too badly! The first shot isn't too bad -- I just had a sore arm for a while. Second dose is a bit worse, with a day long fever in my experience, but a friend of mine who took the same shot as I did didn't have that, so it probably depends on the person.
