Of course playing on the real hardware is king. but Which console do you think is best for Retro stuff right now?

for me its the analogue pocket right now, the feel of the hardware and the screen is so good.

If you care about FPGA it's either going to be a Pocket or Mister.

If you're happy with software emulation, then you have multiple options including smartphones, PC, Steam Deck, etc.

Analogue Pocket huh? I missed the first batch of those but I heard they came out with a new batch in all kinds of cool colors. Think I'll mosey over to their site and order one right n ......

Looking in a cheap way, i think a PSP stills holds up as a great console for retro games, considering you can emulate 8, 16 and some 32bit consoles AND the PSP titles, that's really nice

For me the Switch with Retroarch and a Pro controller is best for retro gaming, except for the PS1. I replayed FF Tactics on it a couple of years ago and the performance left something to be desired. I'm sure it is just an emulation issue though, as I played it on my Android tablet back in 2016 without any issues, IIRC. PS1 games are best on my PC, despite the fact that I actually own a Playstation and most of the games that I care about playing.
