    I was thinking about another thing... maybe the old softmod just cannot use FAT32 for loading? There's a guide to use ModMii to update those on a easy way. I didn't used it myself because it's only for Windows, but it's worth a try...

    No, it seems like it's a problem in the Modbo (5.0) modchip. It only happens on the two PS2's with Modbo 5.0. On the others with a Ripper and a original Matrix chip this problem doesn't occur. So the Tonyhax International boot CD is the only practical solution.
