The port is physically damaged and I don't know yet if the traces were damaged as well. The previous owner said it fell and landed on the backside with the HDMI cable inserted. Currently, it flickers a few times but shows no display over HDMI. I tried an old PS2 composite cable on the Multi Out port and that works fine. This is a 3001A model.

So, what are my options? I'm guessing there's no way to get digital output over the Multi Out port, but what would be the next best thing?

And if anyone has any experience replacing the HDMI port, I could use some advice on the tools and materials needed, tips, etc.

Use the old video port with a component cable (SONY or HD Retrovision) or a PS2 HDMI Adapter (might work, not sure).

That involves soldering, right? Easy if you know and have experience with it.

If I had experience with that sort of thing, I'd buy a faulty PS3 60GB and try to revive it. Watched a video and not something an inexperienced person should attempt.

Joke post?

Even with proper equipment and no broken traces it would take significantly longer than 15 minutes.
You think I'm joking? I own a repair business I do this all week every day ps3 hdmi ports are thru hole components there the easiest ports to replace, hot air device removes dead port in 5 minutes and as soon as the old port is out you fit the new port in, just because you can't do it, don't tar everyone with your brush fella.

People come to this forum to share their expertise with others who generally have their own unique areas of interest. I'm not sure if I see the point in bragging in any context. We're all brainlets in one area or another. :P

Anyway, after making this thread I read that PS3s have issues with some TVs due to the way they handle HDCP. So, I tried a different PS3 on the same TV and had trouble getting it to display as well. It's an older TV. So, it's very possible that this could be the actual problem. Either that or the second PS3 had HDMI issues as well. A lot of variables here.

You really have a attitude problem don't you... You state in your 1st post the port is physically damaged! Then you tell me it can't be replaced in 15 minutes... After hearing I own a repair business, you now state I'm bragging, I'll be straight I'm a well know member on psx place and obscure gamers and came here to help members with issues, but seems as you have a really bad attitude and a problem remembering youre own posts I think I'll leave GBA temp with users like yourself. Good luck in life.
