Hello! As the title explains I'm trying to get saves from my Wii onto the Wii U's vWii

I've tried SaveGame Manager GX, since it seems to be the only thing I ever see online, but whenever I go to my Wii U, the other devices (I've tried SD Card and USB) don't even appear as options. I've tried a few things from searching other threads and such, but nothing I found helped. No other thread (That I was able to find) helped with this, so unfortunately I'm creating this new one

Are you just trying to do a simple move of Wii save files, or are you trying to do something more?
Did you make sure your SD card is FAT32?
And did you check Data Management in the vWii itself? - Not the Wii U menus.

-Just a simple move of some saves (including some with online functionality preventing me from just copying from vanilla management screen)
-My sd card is formatted correctly
-In my post I'm talking about the SaveGame Manager GX menus, not Wii U or vWii

Are you running the SaveGame Manager from the Wii U side or the vWii side?

Boot into vWii mode, then run SaveGame Manager. Inside there you can set your paths to use either EMUnand(?) I'm assuming this means "emulated nand" or some other save type.

I am trying myself, to figure out the best option to manage former Wii, WiiWare and GC saves using this.

I know for sure, any Wii game that you want to transfer your old save over, you must play the game first and create a brand new save file.

So that involves USBloader and finding out exactly where it is saving your new game saves.

Then back over to the SaveGame Manager to set the path to that folder and then to INSTALL you old save over the new one.

I've finally got a stable USBloader experience going and am currently trying to organize and manage my saves.

I'll post my method once I figure it out.

this doesn't work for copy protected games, but just use the official method, which is transfer the save to sd card, then transfer it to the vwii. simple as that. for everything else, use save manager gx.

It's not about copy-protection issues. If you have an old Wii that you saved games from and are wanting them on a WiiU that is is vWii'd, where does the vWii save the OLD saves? To the SD:/private/wii/savegames ? or SD:/savegames ? or a mystery place?

What is the ultimate solution?

Should ALL saves be migrated to EMUnand using SaveGameManager ?

Should ALL saves reside in SD:/savegames ?

Can you then delete the old private/wii/savegames folder from the SD or is that where vWii is saving regular played games?

Also, this is under the guise of running all your owned Wii and GC games off a USB.

This is my set up. Running just fine. Two harddrives, one powered USB hub, WiiU on one, Wii, vWii, GC on the other other.
USBloader is seeing and loading games just fine.

I am currently playing Wii games in order to create a save file.

That save file is showing up under the Wii in SVM, I then can install it to EMUnand.

Or should I just put them all in the regular Wii section? Or make all games run save files from the SD card?

hmmm

I want ALL saves to be located on the SD card. That makes the most sense. I want USBloader to save to the SD card. This way it is easier to backup all saves to the computer as more saves develop. So the DEFAULT needs to be SD:/gamesaves for everything, even GC.

A way that I've been doing this recently (though this is more for transferring saves between regions) was by using SaveMii.

I made a backup of the vWii save using SaveMii (you'll have to save in that game first before it appears I'd imagine), which saved a backup to my SD card in "SD://wiiu/backups/(some ID)/(backup slot)" - make a note of where the backup for your specific game is saved, thats the folder name you'll need to get the save from.

Then I just copied in the save files I wanted to move over into that folder (typically banner.bin, data.bin, whatever), overwriting what was in there. Then I popped the SD back into my Wii U, and restored the now modified save using SaveMii again.

There's probs a million better ways to do this but I found this is consistent for me, and lets me copy over saves from different regions by modifying the save data. Hope this is somewhat helpful?
