Final Fantasy XVI is reportedly in the "final stages of development"

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has announced that the game has entered the "final stages of development," according to Twitch streamer and translator Aikai Kimochi. In an article written for Uniqlo magazine, translated by Kimochi, Yoshida says that the game is nearly finished, and speaks about how this project was different than the MMOs he has worked on for the majority of his career. "We aim to deliver a comprehensive game full of story and gameplay," says Yoshida. "Unlike an online game that involves many players at the same time, FF16 offers a different experience where it focuses on the individual player and immerses you in the story. I think it's a very fleshed out story." His full comments can be read below:

We're in the final stages of development for the new numbered game in the series, Final Fantasy 16. We aim to deliver a comprehensive game full of story and gameplay. Unlike an online game that involves many players at the same time, FF16 offers a different experience where it focuses on the individual player and immerses you in the story. I think it's a very fleshed out story. For those who have grown up and realized that reality isn't kind to you and have drifted away from Final Fantasy, we hope that FF16 will be a game that can bring back anew the passion that you once had with the series.

There is no release information available for FFXVI, but we can expect a big reveal sometime in Spring 2022.

Looks like another emo themed game.

Just going off that quote, yeah, I'd say this is gonna be a majorly emo FF game again.

I'm a fan of turn based combat not their hybrid action system. It's a pity they don't use solely turned based any longer. I'll still get it though, but for the PC. I still can't find a brand new PS5 at MSRP.

After the disaster that was FF15 I'm completely out!
Good news: it's produced by the guy who runs FFXIV, and with most of the Award Winning Expansion Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward's staff, which the base FFXIV now has a free trial of, including leveling up to that point with no restrictions!

As for my opinions...? only FF games i give a shit about are 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10
the rest doesn't really exist to me. Not because i'm some turn based purist but because literally everything that came after 10 looks like the definition of "generic japanese RPG mmo" that i could give less of a shit about since Terraria and World of Warcraft exist

To those who think FF16 is an MMORPG,
no it is not a MMORPG.

To those who are worried about square games being hit or miss,
Have hope, YoshiP is a great producer.

To those who liked the turn based combat more...
I cant blame you based on what the final fantasy series has done with its non turned based games. but hopefully the combat director who worked on Dragons Dogma and Devil May Cry 5 will have designed something good.

When i look at the combat in modern FF games, it's legitimately underwhelming. it looks like a watered down version of what hack and slashes did better 20 years ago. it's not as fast, infact it's incredibly slow, and kind of boring to look at in all honesty. If anything i'd take the turn based gameplay any day over that shit. the thing that especially gets me too is the fact that they clearly know how to make fun and fast combat systems as evidenced by Nier Automata, yet for final fantasy it looks like the same thing but under a thick coat of molasses.
