Does the Wii count as retro?

I'm not too sure, but it is by FAR my favorite console ever.

2006 (basically 2007) launch means today we are now about as far from that as the SNES (1990-1992) was at the time.

What is retro is ever the fun topic though.

Oddly enough, no. Technically, everything up to Dreamcast is considered retro, then there's a shift where some people consider up to PS2/GC/Xbox retro while some others don't.

Does it predate the current gen? Then it's retro.

Is it currently available for retail sale with marketing and support? It's retro.

Did you play it as a kid? It's retro.

Christ... There's been 2 Nintendo consoles since it... So yeah.... Its retro!

Personally I think 7th gen is more so becoming retro than actually retro

I consider the Wii Retro because the Shop Channel has been discontinued, official support for the console is minimal to non existent and the only way to play first party games through the discs is to go through the trouble of paying hundreds of dollars for them or getting them through other means.

To me, what is retro is what you played (and loved) growing up. So yes, I would consider the Wii retro in your case.
