It's safe to simply press reset or whip out the power lead.

The Wii doesn't actually begin writing to firmware until the update has been fully downloaded and checked.

Yeah, hit the reset button, or alternatively, hold down the power button for like 5 seconds.

when I first got my wii (december 8th), it got stuck too. I pushd the reset button, and it updated again and worked fine. don't worry
