You have to understand that the Hori Battle Pad, at least what products appear when I search for it, is basically a copy of the GameCube Controller, and that one differs greatly from the Classic Controller Pro in many ways, primarily on the button layout, which will affect how you play certain games. You have then to add how each game's controls are mapped to the controller. At least the Triggers seem to be close to the CCP.

I'm sure that the Hori Battle Pad will be better than the mediocre Chinese stuff you can find on Aliexpress or Amazon, seems like a licensed product, but doesn't seem like a substitute for a real Classic Controller Pro, unless you're okay with having to adapt to the differences.

If you end up getting one of those Hori pads, I hope you don't pay the absolutely absurd prices I see on Amazon. $98 for one, what a joke...

I changed my mind on the Hori, because I hear 3rd party controllers have issues with Nintendont and etc ...

So I Ordered 2x OEM Classic Pros(I have 3 now) and 2x OEM GC controllers(will buy another brand new one later)...

I would use a CCP to play GC games...When there is a need for pressure sensitivity I will use a GC controller...

The problem with third party ones is associated usually with cheap Chinese controllers, I doubt a licensed product would be done the same way as those.

Despite the 3rd party slander here, HORI actually makes great controllers that have treated me better than 1st party. However, they MAY have problems with Nintendont, but I'd do your own research on that one.

As someone who has both, I would always recommend the Classic Controller unless the game specifically calls for a Gamecube-style layout. The Gamecube controller layout is cool but it's mostly feasible for stuff designed to take advantage of it like Smash Bros Brawl, and I believe Nintendon't can use it as an alternative to an actual GC controller, but for the most part the Classic Controller is going to have the easier-to-use layout and avoid any potential compatibility issues.

For Wii games that need a proper controller, should I buy an OEM Classic pro or a Hori Battle pad ?
The ONLY proper controller for Wii games is a Wiimote. Games that use a battle pad are not proper Wii games, are meant to played laying down, and should be avoided at all costs.

I dont have this specific model, but I dont recommend GameCube style classic controllers. I have one pdp Samus Edition and a Classic Controller and I mostly prefer to use CC than the GC Samus one. Being a licensed product the GC Samus works perfectly on any homebrew, but I just dont like to use it as much.
As mentioned, if a game is meant to use GC Controller already it works fine, the issue is that, although GC controllers are very comfortable, they are not very versatile in my opinion (that is why I hate so much about some guys on the internet praising this controller to the point of treating almost like a sacred thing...). They work if the game is designed around it, mostly 3D adventure style games with not a whole lot of menu browsing or 2D stuff. It is possible to play 2D or games with menus on it? Yes, but it is miserable, especially playing SNES games. At least on homebrew games it is possible to remap stuff, but on official VC titles for a long time you couldnt remap buttons and they mess up badly using GC style classic controllers. The CC is not perfect, but the conventional layout of face buttons (diamond shape instead of the inverted T on GC Controller) will mostly not require any kind of remapping buttons for the majority of games, even on GameCube ones (only F-Zero GX made me remap). This controller that I have increased the size a little bit of the dpad, because the original GC pad have a minuscule one, this is better than the original but not much. That is why the GC controller is so awful at 2D elements and menu browsing. I hate so much using the analog stick for menu browsing...

The only thing that I dont like about CC is the hand cramp if the game uses too much of the shoulder buttons, the hands rest way nicer on GC style controllers, but it doesnt matter much when the buttons are mapped weirdly because of the inverted T shape of the face buttons.

Okay, so I had no idea they made a Samus one, and now I need to track this down because it reminds me of my old Spice Orange GC controller.
