Hardware what could be the use of that button?

if you take a look under the d-pad, theres a square button. what could be its utility about you?

The lights act the same way as on the wiimote, they display what player the controllers are set to

It appears that each half can be used as a separate player controller, though this doesn't explain why the lights are on the middle and not the controller themselves.

Also, the design of the controller seems to be heavily focused on rotational symmetry, so that could be the only reason.

I remember the leaks earlier saying that the "NX" at the time had a share button - perhaps this is it?

I think that is probably it. Since they are both independent they may need a way to tell what battery level they are at. It could also be a pause start button.

1. A share button that maybe would post to Miiverse or some other platform.
2. A button that does a cool feature we haven't heard of yet.
3. A button that is just there so games can use it.

Share/screenshot button. And when the joycons are disconnected and separated then it's just an all purpose button i assume. Seems most likeliest anyway.

since it sits opposite of the "home" button, I'd imagine it performs an OS function like sharing, or some other shortcut to a thingi they haven't revealed. since it appears to be circular, maybe the thingi is going to have a circular visual/logo maybeh?

It's probably not amiibo though, as a button for amiibo wouldn't make sense. I wonder if amiibo support will be integrated (put it over the switch logo) or will be a usb plugin, like with the older 3ds.

I assume the Amiibo spot is the middle of the controller.
