True but a good portion of the gaming opinion makers have modded boxes. Even if few people protest openly, the overall popularity may change for the worse. I'm not saying what they are doing is wrong. They somehow have to make sure they get the necessary sales in. However, it has made the 360 a lot less attractive for me and lots of other people. Whether that will come back to haunt them or not remains to be seen.Wow, they have just shot themselves in the foot... Predictable, maybe necessary from their point of view. It could have quite a negative impact on the 360's position in the market, though. It'll be interesting to see how this one works out.
Why? Most Xbox360s aren't modded.
If you mean games reviewers (mags, websites etc)... then no, you would be wrong. They huge majority (99.99%) will have legit hardware/software.QUOTE said:gaming opinion makers

sounds somewhat contradictory![]()
someone gave another explanation on xbox scene
QUOTE...Major Nelson and Gamerscoreblog posted reminders today that people who log onto Live using modified consoles are being dealt with. As more and more people pour into the Halo 3 Beta, please take this warning to heart. Using modified content and hacked boxes is against the Terms of Use for Xbox Live and doing so will result in your console being permanently banned from the service. Forever. For all games.
If you get an error message "Status Code: Z: 8015 - 190D" it means you are done playing Xbox Live on that console. Congrats.
To all of the upstanding members of the Live community - we salute you and look forward to fun times throughout the Halo 3 Beta and beyond

We've been speaking to someone who claim's to have some technical insight into the update. His claim's are that the new update gives the dash the ability to dump the eeprom to do crc checks on area's. He said that the instant the update was ran, it was checked and flagged if data was altered. One of the main reasons I believe him is because he mentioned the fact that the 360 now takes about 3 seconds longer to boot. This would definitly be a result of dumping the eeprom and checking. MS will now start rolling 'waves' of bans over the next few weeks, and not all at once. I think they do this for their support staff, publicity, and image.
So, likely, the console was flagged already, and changing wont do anything at this point.
Ah well, just more speculation.
I'm banned.
so much for xbox live, I should've stuck with playing my dinky DS online. microsoft can eat a c0ck.
by the way, this is not media detection, I haven't played any games at all whatsoever from my DVD drive in my 360 since the spring update was released. this more than likely is the system checking the firmware on your drive.
lol... lemme guess, they got you to, huh, thegame? i feel for ya...
no, however i was going to join soon :'( well not anymore![]()

This community is full of opinion makers. The big blogs are a huge factor, and some people there definately run homebrew on their DS. The classic websites and magazines are a lot less important nowadays and especially the magazines don't really have the power to make an opinion anymore.Yeah, but to be honest... you shouldn't buy into hardware because of it's hackability
I think you should. It's about your rights and possibilities! My DS would be a LOT worse without the amazing homebrew games and software and the ability to try games before I buy them. It wouldn't be worth the money I paid for it because I wouldn't even know about most of the great games.
I'm buying my next phone because it's completely hackable. I refuse to get a phone that is crippled to make me pay for ringtones.
