Hi everyone!
Is there anyway to remove the RGH/JTAG hack from an Xbox 360? Would you be able to use it like a retail console after it's been unmodded? Like, connect to Xbox live, etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

you'd have to add the xbox partition again, yes. however, official systems can only run wd scorpio, 500GBs or less. that's the only security sector we have for an official system. if you do that, you'll have to inject the xbox partition again, then install an official update with the hdd plugged in to get xbox stuff, avatar stuff, media stuff, and kinect stuff back on to the hdd.

Do I need to remove the HDD from the casing and then connect it to my PC using a SATA transfer cable? I have a slim HDD.

btw, I assume that a full format on the hdd will show three partitions, since that's how many exist. however, party buffalo or similar can probably wipe the whole thing. you must first format the system, you may be able to format it on the system actually. you just need your serial number, which can be found in system settings for easy access. you may not have to wipe the drive on the computer. though, I don't know what may be left behind if anything. in that case, I'm not sure if you need to inject the xbox partition. however, it may be best just to format on the pc, then inject partition 2, the xbox partition, into the drive and not worry about anything being left behind. you can kill two birds with one stone that way.

Can I format the HDD on the 360 and inject partition 2 later on? (I won't be playing any OG Xbox games anytime soon.)

After I reformat the HDD, do I need to install the Xbox compatibility partition using my PC?

If you're using a original MS harddrive then yes, you'll have to inject the original emulator partition back into the drive.
If you're using a upgraded one (one without a security sector) the HDD won't be read.

I really don't know why you would ever want to remove such a mod -- while not rare as some other modded devices they are both becoming less in number/potential and desirable to the point where if it is a Jasper or anything newer then you will have a line of people willing to offer a trade or could alternatively sell it for more than a basic slim might run you if you are keeping controllers.

Anyway signs as in could someone with physical forensics detect it. Yes. Plastics, labels, solder type/style, possibly wear marks from wires/tape... and if someone did something like a fan mod then all bets off again. Main concern here would be trying for some kind of warranty replacement (don't know if any are still active, much less for a machine that might be modded).

Signs as in could someone with digital forensics detect it. Even assuming it was kept offline for the duration (so no possibility of a flag you don't yet know about), you wiped profiles (I know we discussed that in the past, https://gbatemp.net/threads/using-an-xbox-live-profile-on-an-rgh-console.610463/ , but playing crazy safe in this scenario, wiped hard drives (or even grabbed one from another machine that was never touched) and restored a pre mod NAND backup. Possibly but it would likely be beyond whatever MS goes in for with bans in this day and age -- depending upon the wear levelling of the NAND sectors there could be some hidden things, possibly even able to be grabbed in software.

Hello to all.
A quick question popped up in my mind, if I remove the JTAG/RGH modification, will there still be traces of the hack on the console after unmodding?

If you kept your profile clean and are using a formatted security sectorred or new hard drive then no.
That's why one keeps a clean copy of the NAND at hand to reverse the hacks done to it.

How likely is it for the NAND to include "hidden things"?
