They really went with Herlock Sholmes?
It's not like I would mind a change if they couldn't get the rights to the name Sherlock Holmes, but they could at least have come up with something more original...

That really makes me reconsider buying into this.

Gosh, I am so looking forward to when this goes on sale at a discounted price so I can add it to my backlog and imagine playing it someday.

As has already been noted countless times, there is prominent historical precedent for Herlock Sholmes.

The trailers and stuff are nice and all but haven't all the AA fans already tried playing the game, the translation mostly? It doesn't feel new and therefore not too exciting.

Though due to the translation still ongoing for the second game, I never played that so I have something to really look forward to. I would probably also enjoy replaying the first game.

People who play fan translations on consoles like the 3DS are actually extremely niche. More people haven't experienced these games in any form than people who played a fan translation or watched it on youtube.

there'll likely be after awhile of release people who'll touch things up via a Romhack to change out names (i think the 3DS translation project was fairly well done)

Sure it's "extremely" niche? I am not certain about it yes, but in AA communities around the internet I've seen there's a lot of people who have played the translation and are/were talking about it.

Yeah the number of people who haven't is definitely way above of those who have, but I'm mostly referring to the big fans of the series. In reality though the number could be small for all I know, though it seems there is a lot who have played the translation going from discussions and downloads of the translation.

Thank god Switch hacking is a thing. A patch to turn his name back to Sherlock Holmes will eventually come.

I'm just getting into the Ace Attorney series, and having never played the fan translation or even seeing this game and its mechanics at all before, I think this is super neat and I can't wait to play it :D

I can totally see why it's not really that interesting if you've played the fan translation or even the original game before, though.

Herlock Sholmes is hilarious and my favourite part of the localisation so far.
Keeping the Ryunosuke Naruhodo's name completely unchanged bothers me far more.
Not so much that it'll stop me from buying, but still...

Plus, btw, a patch wouldn't change it when they say herlock in the audio

AA communities are the definition of niche, yes. I mean entire communities discussing games with minimal replay value...

It may seem like a lot of people know of and have played it, but there aren't exactly going to be people vocally saying they haven't played the fanTL in discussions about the game, and there are plenty of fans who don't know about the fanTL.
The Ace Attorney series has a wide reaching fandom that goes beyond just people who participate in online discussions about the series, and for most people, GAAC is going to be their first real introduction to the game.
