Backward compatibility for now isn’t Nintendo fashion for sure. They'll probably make a new Switch revision or a Switch 2, based on a more powerful Tegra generation with backwards compatibility. It will most likely feature a 1080p screen and a way beefier battery, while having less power consumption. It should be backwards compatible with the old dock (and vice versa) with a bundle without the dock for previous Switch owners. The dock will also have 4K output with 2 USB-C 3.1 ports. And it will have Bluetooth headset support.
None. This might possibly be the last console from Nintendo.
Switch is an handheld though.I just hope they stop developing consoles and focus on Handhelds and Games.
When a new console arrives, lets see what you get:
1- A new Mario game.
2- A new Mario Kart game,
3- A new Smash Game
4- A new Zelda Game
5- A bunch of crap
6- A bunch of OLD crap
7- Console is dead
8- lets build another one, and if it has almost the same hardware capacity, no problem... let's build it!
(9- hey boss, but we can explore this console to the limit! create more Mario games, more Zeldas.. more everything!)
(10- shut up, and build the new console and make it even more portable!)

Do you really think console's buyers don't want that?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's why we buy Nintendo's console

If next generation offers videogames via streaming them, then Nintendo is just unable to stay in the market. Hence, Nintendo might decide to stay out from the hardware competition. Why do you say that ? That's why I hate "guess".

Nintendo should invest big money in the development of software distribution. Unfortunately, in the years they have accumulated a sensible gap with respect to the competitors. Now also Google seems to be ready to enter the competition.Yeah, that's called guess. I think you read it somewhere like Nintendo Presidents suggests that it might abandon home console development. He said "suggests" but I am sure that he didn't mean that. They should study Sony and Microsoft of why third parties are supporting them better than Nintendo's.

So my guessing is a no-future for Nintendo hardware.
However, in the past years many people were convinced that Nintendo was doomed, and it comes out that they were just wrong.
