SNES-styled RPG game 'Chained Echoes' gets release window

Publisher Deck13 Spotlight and developer Matthias Linda have revealed the release window for their upcoming RPG game Chained Echoes. The latter, which was initially crowdfunded on KickStarter, bears aesthetics reminiscent of the SNES era and is set in a fantasy universe featuring equal parts dragon and mecha. We received a peek at the game's mechanics and aesthetics in a new trailer aired today:

The continent of Valandis is marked by war and rumors are that a weapon of mass destruction is an imminent danger. Can a group of strangers restore the peace? Can the weapon be destroyed?

Take up your sword, channel your magic or board your Mech. Chained Echoes is a 16-bit SNES style RPG set in a fantasy world where dragons are as common as piloted mechanical suits. Follow a group of heroes as they explore a land filled to the brim with charming characters, fantastic landscapes and vicious foes. Can you bring peace to a continent where war has been waged for generations and betrayal lurks around every corner?

Chained Echoes is a story-driven game where a group of heroes travel around the vast continent of Valandis to bring an end to the war between its three kingdoms. In the course of their journey, they will travel through a wide array of diverse landscapes spanning from wind-tanned plateaus and exotic archipelagos to sunken cities and forgotten dungeons.

The current release window for Chained Echoes is Q4 of this year. It will launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4 4, Xbox One and, through backwards compatibility, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Human sprites do not do it for me. Everything else looks very nice though.

That said these things are made in the battle system for me and transformation based ones (can only assume that is what the mech stuff entails going by that video, don't mind the odd vehicle section though) are some of the harder ones to pull off well.

After all these years 16bit still looks amazing (8bit looks really good, too), but 32bit and 64bit aged very, very poorly.

Having said that, 32/64bit games are of course totally playable. I play PS1 games on my Vita and on it it looks pretty nice (using some filters than its original quality).

Oh man, they already had me sold before the characters all transformed into slick mechas. What a trailer.

More Chrono Trigger vibes with those seamless but still roundbased encounter fights. And thus it's very similat to Sea of Stars so I wonder how it turns out.
Yeah I backed Sea of Stars for both a Switch special edition and a Steam copy. I'll be tempted to get a special edition of this if it's available too, or at least a physical copy. Similar vibes for sure.

aesthetically this game looks more 32-bit era then 16-bit era
the number of pixel on screen , the higher resolution ect...

when you say 32bit and 64bit aged very, very poorly.
i'm guessing you're talking about games starting to use 3D
not all games had such a graceful transition as super mario world to mario 64
but psx had some pretty good 2D classics

the golden age of rpgs to me was when it wasn't about graphics. it was about story, music, and gameplay. alot of games focus nowadays on graphics too much and dont focus on gameplay, story, and music to give that immersive experience.

this looks like a golden age rpg to me at face value. cant wait to see if it lives up to the hype.

I just dislike that they don't let me choose the voices before the game starts. Happened with botw as well, had to change to japanese and restart.
