RetroArch 1.7.9 released, features new touchscreen gestures for the XMB

The Libretro team is back, bringing a new version of the beloved emulator frontend, RetroArch. After releasing version 1.7.8 back in August, the team has made some new changes and released an update in the form of version 1.7.9. This time around, there's been a focus on quality of life features, resulting in new ways to navigate RetroArch's XMB; users can now use touchscreen gestures on supported devices in order to go through the menus. Tapping or swiping specific places onscreen will allow you to search for games, scroll through lists, change settings, and more, all without requiring a connected keyboard or gamepad. Some general improvements have also been made, such as adding Wiimote lightgun support on the Wii, solving a memory leak due to a video driver on the PS2, and giving some overall bugfixes in regards to the menu. If you want to make sure you've got the latest version for your setup, or want to try the new features out for yourself, you can download it from the source below.

If only they didn't have such a non-intuitive UI this stuff wouldn't even be important. It's crazy that Retroarch has been around for 8 or 9 years now and they still haven't adopted a different interface than the PS3-themed one.
There are a few different UIs in Retroarch, and you can select them in Drivers > Menu and customise them in - I believe - User Interface > Appearance. I strongly disliked the original rgui until I realised I could remove the checkerboard pattern and make it purple.

I agree Retroarch's UI is incredibly non-intuitive. It just feels like it was built with power users or people acquainted with programming in mind. To anyone not interested in that, it's a nightmare. To this day I sometimes get bugs I don't understand and have to redo my configuration. Best thing I can say is you get used to it; as the tool is rather fantastic and has changed the face of emulation so quickly in so little time.

Sorry bud I wasn’t ignoring you please don’t think I was I got caught up with a bit of switch related issues. Is it a lot better nowadays? it’s been along time since I last tried it I should have another go! The only n64 title I could play properly was SM64 but not a bad thing. What setup are you using nowadays?

I just dislike that they don't let me choose the voices before the game starts. Happened with botw as well, had to change to japanese and restart.
