PS3 emulator RPCS3 now available on Mac

Popular PS3 emulator RPCS3 has released a build for macOS. In a new trailer, the RPCS3 team shows off several popular PS3 titles running on various Macs, with some tips for achieving optimal performance thrown in. Some of the performances are impressive as well, such as the M1 Max running Persona 5 1440p while maintaining 50-60 frames per second.

While RPCS3 had been available for Mac prior to 2016, it had to be abandoned due to Apple refusing to support OpenGL. Now, however, it appears to be running again, although not as well as its Windows or Linux counterparts. The team acknowledges that macOS will run slower, and that there will also be several Mac-specific issues that need to be worked out. The compatibility list can also not necessarily be applied to the macOS build, but games that are playable on Windows can safely be assumed to run reasonably well on Mac. Finally, some of the known issues singled out by the team include the lack of support for Nvidia GPUs and the fact that only PlayStation controllers work right now.

If you'd like to know more about the macOS build of RPCS3, you can get the full details in the video above.

I have both macOS and PC. I gotta say that both have pros and cons anyway.

I personally prefer PC over macOS for three things: I always used exe files, console gaming to PC and an Emulators, of courses. :)

People shouldn't be owning a Mac because Apple anti consumer. They make their products difficult to repair.

Porting this emulator to Mac is a bad idea. The less support Apple gets the less people will want to go to mac. And the less of anti consumer practices are supported.

Fact of the matter is, Apple makes excellent products that cater very well to specific work loads, namely content creation.

I disagree, if people want to use platforms that are anticonsumer and developers want to support them they should be free to do so without ideological persecution.

same situation different conclusion.
I use both but I prefer Macs
not only do you get Mac Apps, unix apps, most linux apps and a large portion of exe's either via Wine or emulation/dual booting. (Intel)
not to mention anytime the price to performance was out of whack for what I needed hackintoshing was/is useful until they completely abandon intel support.

with M1 sure I lose out on eGPU support (for now 🤞) and dual booting and emulation is effected by using ARM windows and its additional emulation layer for x86/x64 but its still doable for the few apps wine can't run.
but you can also run iOS apps native so thats nice I guess.

its got to the point the only time need to use a PC is Gaming, linux for some of my data recovery jobs, or CUDA support and thats only cause Apple started fighting with Intel so I can no longer get drivers for Nvidia GPUs because during 10 series the Mac even handled that.

it doesnt mean I dont like my 5950x and 3090/6800xt build but its more a toy or a niche tool

that said Apple a done a lot to alienate IT pro's like me, so I hope they aim more things to tech pro's like they used too.

Apple is for the lesser intelligent people imo.
Windows is the middle ground.
Linux is for the intelligent and control oriented.

Apple doesn't make that many good products they just know how to cater to the people who like trendy stuff and want to be in a cult like group. one of my first computers as a kid was a macintosh performa 6300 and all ive seen from apple over the years is they go backwards to appease people who are too stupid to understand what they are giving up or allowing apple to control. apple is not our masters.

Apple is a dumpster fire of a company for their blatant anti-consumer choices and meticulous, intentional sabotage of consumer rights.

But.

if you've been locked into the eco-system, you're locked into the eco-system. the M1 are very capable machines, and it's nice to be able to game on them for those users. There are some content creation tools only on mac, and some folks don't have the luxury of choosing.

More gaming in more places is ultimately a good thing.

Are M1 somehow related to M.2 SSD?
