Nintendo of America: "Learn more about the Switch LIVE on Jan. 12"

CvvQNv1VMAA-px4.jpg

Nintendo of America has made quite the preemptive announcement, promising to show off more information about their upcoming Nintendo Switch system during a live presentation on January 12, 2017.

According to NOA, the pricing, release date and launch lineup will be discussed in the stream.

This will be an event for invited media, financial analysts, and trade partners in Tokyo that will be globally livestreamed on Jan. 12, U.S. time. The presentation will include the launch date and pricing for Nintendo Switch, as well as a look at the lineup of games currently in development

There will be opportunities for the public to participate in other hands-on events around the same time, details of which will be announced later.

yes, even with Zelda as a launch title. I've heard far too many "...but smash bros will increase wiiu sales", "but mario kart will increase wiiu sales" and "but bayonetta will increase wiiu sales" to believe it'll make a difference.
Which is why they're releasing a console that isn't the WiiU. If they fail despite all of Nvidia's third-party connections and despite merging home and mobile divisions, then yeah it'd probably be time to go the way of Sega. However, at least they're making all the right decisions with Switch so far.

Since when has nvidia "third party connections"? The best they can do is facilitate porting a bit, but the main part of support (both technical and political) has to come from nintendo.

And...all the right decisions? No offense, but it looks to me you're just pulling what you want to hear from the trailer. There's no VR, no word on true third party support (even bethesda refuses to confirm skyrim on the thing), no price and no launch lineup known. At the very least, you've got to admit their decision to release the gist of their info AFTER shopping season is plain dumb. And with so little else known, I really can't say what decisions they ARE making, let alone if they're good ones.

It'll work out. Read up on the launch of the DS. They're constructing a hype train and they'll be riding it all the way to launch once they begin revealing in January

They've been working with developers of all genres to get stuff ported to Shield consoles, quite a lot of games you can play natively on them that come from PC/other consoles. And that's before you even consider the possibility of gamestream, which adds pretty much infinite third-party support.

There's no VR
Which you wouldn't expect from a mobile console anyway. Phones can do it, but those cost upward of $500 before even taking the headset into account, and their interactions in VR are very limited. Definitely not worth the price hike and the limited VR-ready games library. A couple generations down the line, maybe.

no word on true third party support (even bethesda refuses to confirm skyrim on the thing)
Which reinforces the theory that Switch might have gamestream just as all Nvidia's Shield consoles do.

no price and no launch lineup known
We're not even in the same year that it's launching yet, so this is not surprising. They could have done a reveal much earlier and kept us waiting years, so at least they skipped that.

Nintendo definitely likes to carve their own path when it comes to release timing. On one hand, the holidays are the busiest shopping season, but OTOH if you release when nothing else is going on, you have more eyes focused exclusively on your product rather than the cluster fuck of all potential things you could buy for all different people.

My friends seem to think that it might be able to play 3ds games just because they saw it play cartridges in the trailer, but I just sit there laughing at them like "ya dumb" because of the fact that its a horizontal tablet, and therefore can't play games that require heavy use of the touchscreen and a stylus

Yeah I would expect most WiiU games will get ported and future WiiU games will get a simultaneous release on Switch. OTOH I'm not sure they'll bother porting anything from the 3DS, they'll just keep releasing separate games for a few years followed by Switch taking the crown as the "new" 3DS.

Please the Switch is not a NEW 3ds.......... all you hears is rumors made be people as i know the switch will have maybe a 1060 gt 3 go ram a 10 point multi touchscreen, probably a A73 cpu and not be a portable ....it is a home console that you can bring everywhere without caring about the dock , never forget the 3ds will still have game for at least 2 years so don't worry.

Yeah that's why I said they'd keep releasing 3DS games for a while, but there's little point in combining home and portable consoles into one if your plan isn't to eventually merge home and portable divisions.
