Netflix's latest take on video game adaptations is Sonic the Hedgehog, as announced by the company's official channel. SEGA, Netflix, WildBrain, and Man of Action will be teaming up to create a 3D animated cartoon series starring the blue blur. The Tweet was deleted, but prior to the deletion, it said, "Rings? Check. Sneakers? Check. Speed? SONIC. SEGA’s legendary video game icon Sonic the Hedgehog races onto Netflix in a new 3D animated series from SEGA, WildBrainHQ and ManOfActionEnt premiering in 2022".

Kinda disappointed it's 3D animated but I'm not surprised. 3D animation can be done well but I won't hold my breath on this one.

I enjoyed the movie somewhat but found the Earth setting boring. It would be nice if they'd go the Mania Adventures route (which by the way was fantastic but leaned a bit too much on pandering to fans) but after Sonic Boom, who knows which way it will go?

I will take good 3d over poorly done 2d any day tho. Sonic X was just lazy animation and it killed the momentum of that show.

I mentioned the jelly donut edit for a reason. it isn't even something making it more kid friendly it's just outright hiding stuff that isn't familiar...and tbh it could be debated that it's partially harmful hiding the rest of the world from a kid...albeit miner since it's just a bit of food but still

I'm wary, Man of Action have a certain writing style that ends up making their shows feel pretty samey.
They're best known for the original run of Ben 10 as well as Generator Rex, and Big Hero 6, but they also did Mega Man Fully Charge which when dissected shares far too many character tropes and development arches with Ben 10.

That's an odd stance to take from it. Animal crossing does a fine job of mixing culture from around the world, including their english localization. Things like the treehouse translation of Fire Emblem Fates is a good enough reason to want things properly localized. Let's also not forget that it wasn't just blood and "jelly donuts", but about 20 episodes of Shaman King on 4kids were cut due to the editing being impossible (Lots of dealing with death and the afterlife in that series).

god, i hope it's good.
not because I love sonic or anything, to me the series ended on adventure 2 as sonic team intended, but because the poor guy deserves a break.
though man of action made a name for itself with the first ben 10 series, they are yet to achieve another success that doesn't rely on brand recognition alone.

( though it's probably going to be another series like mania adventures and boom, where sonic just stands around and acts cynical.
i'm still not over how bad the chao in space episode was because of the messy directing being condescending to the viewer and explaining the episode every 2 seconds, instead of waiting to surprise the viewer at the end. )

regardless of whether it's good or not, it's going to be ripped apart all over youtube just for clickbait while sega goes "WHAT DID WE DO WRONG!! for the next thing, let's reinvent sonic AGAIN, but now with 1000000% more green hill zone and meta humor, so the nostalgia shuts them up, and they cant criticize because sonic himself will!
