Is it possible to load ISOs directly from a network share?

I recently found out about ps3netsrv, which allows me to store PS3 ISOs on a network server and load them on my PS3. This functionality is super useful, because it means I don't have to have a massive HDD in my PS3, and I can store the ISOs on my network server (which has auto-backups enabled and is just generally a better place to store files).

This got me wondering, is there anything like this for the original Xbox? It's got the network connection. I have no idea if it's technically feasible, but thought it worth asking as it is very convenient. I've been out of the scene for a while now but wanting to boot it back up and play some of my old games. I've tried searching, but without a specific name I mostly just get generic networking tips for xbox. It doesn't help that Microsoft doesn't name their consoles in any sensical way, so most of the results relate to xbox one.

Thanks in advance for advice/suggestions.

There are some emulators that load over LAN, and XBMC can pull videos and such.

For commercial games then yeah get used to shuffling them around over network or using discs unless you somehow have a compatible SAN (or maybe a suitably modded xbox, read chip or TSOP, that cares less about drive type and can have more choices here for SAN). If you have to look up what a SAN is you don't have one and likely won't want to maintain one. Short version SAN = storage area network, where your NAS might function as a remote store somewhere for things that speak to remote stores then a SAN acts as a local hard drive as far as the device it is connected to is concerned and I am not sure you are going to find one that speaks IDE/PATA or an adapter.
