Well, as I'm not a big fan of English dubs and I've wanted to start playing this game, making undub was necessary for me.
Sadly (at least European version) doesn't include in game files Japanese audio, so we need to get audio from Japanese release.

1. Unpack Japanese release game files.
2. Go to

romfs/snd/

3. Rename "jp" to language code of language you are using in game (tested only with English):

• "du" - Dutch
• "en" - English
• "fr" - French
• "ge" - German
• "it" - Italian
• "sp" - Spanish

4. Copy folder to sdcard

For EU:
atmosphere/titles/0100CE500D226000/romfs/snd/ (Atmosphere 0.9.4 and older)
or
atmosphere/contents/0100CE500D226000/romfs/snd/ (Atmosphere 0.10.1+)
or
reinx/titles/0100CE500D226000/romfs/snd/

For US:
atmosphere/titles/0100FB700D224000/romfs/snd/ (Atmosphere 0.9.4 and older)

And remember to restart Switch.

...This is the game that was first on 3DS, then ported to Switch, featuring an unlikable player character, practically zero old and familiar characters, and never actually fulfilled its very premise - that being elucidating on "Layton's Mystery Journey" - instead focusing on unconnected nonsense and ending on a cliffhanger? And never explained why the dog can talk?

I played it on 3DS; meh. The VA was decent, as were the puzzles, but...the cast, the story, the ending...it just wasn't a Layton game at heart. Instead of porting this to Switch, they should've made the sequel - or just forgotten this Katrielle girl altogether and went back to Layton and Luke.

It's good to see undubbing it's possible, but would it really improve a mediocre game?

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the easy guide! They should have added an option for it in the first place, considering these games started coming out locally right around the time the anime started airing.

I was actually a bit shocked at Katrielle's VA in the game versus the anime. Arimura Kasumi from the game is really quite serious and ever slightly quirky, kind of more like Layton. In the anime, Hanazawa Kana and the production team made her a lot more eccentric. The tones are completely different and both work in different ways. Honestly, I'll take either any day over the weird really fake English accent they gave everyone in the English dub. Yes, she's supposed to be an Englishwoman, but moreso was Layton, who didn't have to layer it on so thick in the VA.

Long winded way of saying: thanks for easily fixing my multi-year long quest to set the audio to this in Japanese. I tried this game on iOS, I tried it on 3DS. Now finally on Switch, I can play it in JP audio. Despite the reviews and general responses, I like the game and its protagonist.

Oh, and still no news about a LMJ sequel, not even at the end of 2022, years after this crappy game released on the 3DS - where the hell is Layton? Why can dog talk to multiple people, who are not said to have the same 'gift' as Luke?
Clearly, the answer to both is "who dafaq cares???" if we still are left with this shitty cliffhanger.

What a way to provide a 'continuation' to Layton's incredible adventures. Azran Legacy and Unwound Future were fantastic send-offs to each era, only to be spoiled by this revolting game. Goddamnit Level-5.
