Nintendo have given us the first glimpse at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie with a poster showcasing Mario, who is surrounded by Toad's looking up at Peach's castle which adorns the top of a very Mario-esque rounded hill off in the distance.

The Untitled Mario film which is releasing in April 2023 is currently in the works by Illumination who were noticeably responsible for the Despicable Me movies.

This comes alongside an announcement for an upcoming Nintendo Direct that will be focusing on the The Super Mario Bros. Movie and is scheduled for this Thursday - 1:05 p.m. PT / 20:05 GMT.

Not really, actually Sonic movies weren't on my mind when that comment was made. And yes, those movies were "ok", but nothing more than that.

I might receive bad comments, but I was thinking about Roger Rabbit from the 80's/90's (can't really remember). The animation was great, but the human actors weren't, and that ruined the movie IMO. Even if it received many prizes and all that. Another good (or bad?) example is Space Jam, MJ is a great basketball player... I mean, technically speaking both movies are great, but that's it.

I was thinking about the first Mario movie with human actors, I can compare it with those Zelda games from the CD-I, that no one should ever discover they exist.

Animated characters and human actors is a very dangerous mixture if done wrong. Nintendo knows that very well.

Sega even had to make corrections to Sonic before finally releasing the first movie.

Myself, I don't like the idea of such mixture on a Mario movie, it might ruin Mario games pretty bad.

Why does the Mario movie Mario look like a guy in a suit?
The lighting on the toad's eyes make them look dead inside.
Something is quite strange and uncanny I am surprised they didn't use the animation style of the Mario and Rabbids/Luigi's Mansion 3 which looks like Mario 3D World just a lot more animated and cartoony.
Maybe it looks a lot better in motion so maybe I'm being unfair before the trailer drops.

This is 100% a tie-in for the Super Nintendo World parks opening soon at Universal. Both are scheduled for 2023, and Illumination is owned by Universal.

...so I'm willing to bet the direct will mention the parks too
