Head of sonic teams wants to remake Sonic Adventure 1

Director Takashi Lizuka from Sonic Team stated in an interview that he is interested in remaking sonic adventure. He admitted that the game was innovative for its time, but it has some rough edges. And that is why he says he "really wants to remake the game" with things like better camera angles, controls, and graphics

What do I think of this?

First of all, I think this game is definitely worth a remake. Let me be clear, I think the game has issues. but I think the good aspects of that game are definitely worth trying. And because sonic adventure 1 port on modern platforms was not very good in my opinion (audio issues, camera issues, no widescreen, shiny 3d models for some reason, weird cutscene framerate issues, etc), I would absolutely love revisiting the game with those issues being fixed. And since crash n sane trilogy, spyro the dragon remakes have shown a market for remaking old games. I think this game will definitely be successful. Hopefully Sonic Adventure 2 remake comes as an option as well. And as a fan of 3d platformers, I will always welcome a game like that. Not to mention that prettier graphics are always welcome. Especially when sonic team clearly needs to remember what made Sonic great.

That would be pretty neat, Sonic Adventure had a number of positives going for it. Unfortunately it had a lot more negatives going for it, but an Odyssey-style remake could turn out fairly slick if given the right attention.

The game was great on the GameCube but shit by today’s standards. Glitchy physics, shit graphics, horrid voice acting, crappy story and some gameplay sections worth skipping. Modern Sonic games already have better physics, graphics and voice acting; the story isn’t the focus of the game so it doesn’t matter; the casino level and Big The Cat’s section should both be optional.

If done well a Sonic Adventure remake could be considered good by today’s standards.

A ground up remake a la what that Final Fantasy 7 or Resident Evil 2 thing is doing could work but at that point you might as well make a new game, and I don't know why anybody would do 3d Sonic.

From what it sounds like, he is simply going to tweak the camera and control. I do not know if he would add new gameplay elements. I sincerely hope that the positive reaction to this interview encourages them to work hard on it.

Yep, he is probably gauging interest if I had to guess. But if sega is remaking the panzer dragoon series (that is already confirmed). it makes sense they look at sonic adventure as well

I'm actually pretty excited. If they do go through with it, I just hope they take their time with it and make sure it actually runs and plays well. Not cut corners more times than you would with a golden mushroom on Mario Kart.

As a Sonic fan who grew up reading the comics, watching the TV shows, and playing the Genesis games on a daily basis for months at a time, I don't believe this games needs a remake. SA1 and SA2 were fun and innovative for their time, and I loved playing them, although I don't believe they played like traditional sonic games. Sonic Mania was a step in the right direction, and I hope they end up choosing to continue on that path for the series.

I think one thing they could do is add a new character to the story that is optional with a boost mechanic. Maybe something like mecha sonic? This way it is optional. And sonic's gameplay is untouched. Kind of similar to N sane trilogy adding coco as a playable character for all crash games
