Owners of Playstation's flagship racing game Gran Turismo 7 have been taking to social media to vent their frustration at not being able to play their $70 purchase. After what was meant to be routine maintenance, the game's servers have been offline now for around 30 hours. Instead of only affecting multiplayer races, no one was able to play the game (other than a very minimal selection of races - with zero progression saved) due to the decision to lock the single-player behind online-only DRM.

To make matters worse, Polyphony Digital reduced the credit rewards for many races in the last update in an effort to promote the micro-transactions in the game.

Oh damn!!! Surprised not to see this on the front page news
It needs to be as PD need to feel pressure to backtrack on these anti-gamer decisions.

Check out this BS post from Kazunori Yamauchi:

Also in this update, some event rewards have been adjusted. I wanted to also explain the reasons for it and our plans going forward.

In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions.
At the same time the pricing of cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it’s important for it to be linked with the real world prices.
I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to try to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again.
What.

You want people to enjoy lots of cars without microtransactions, but you think the difficulty of obtaining the cars should reflect the real world? Are you fuckin kidding me?

It's so obvious how they think gamers are total morons. There's literally no way to afford a lot of the cars in the game unless you grind races and he knows full well that by lowering the rewards that pushes people to buy credits with real money. Honestly, this game deserves to be boycotted until they walk back on some of this shit.

Is the game itself any good apart from all this? I mean driving, cars, races etc?

The driving part has a couple flaws but it's very decent. It does feel like they spent too much time on the superficial stuff like the replays though as the tuning/upgrades sections are a lot more barebones than they should be. That sort of stuff can be added later though so I'm not down on the amount of content as much as I am on the obvious push for micotransactions.

In response to player outrage, we've decided to add more to our game! Something we probably should've thought about beforehand when thinking about "balance."
