I've seen quite a few posts from various users that are in disagreement over what resolution setting is best for playing Wii games on Wii U. Some say that 480p is best, because TV upscalers handle the upscaling better than the Wii U does, while others say that 1080p is best because 480p has a "blur filter" and overscan issues, and that the resolution isn't 1:1.
I'm curious whether there's any consensus, or if opinions are split down the middle.
For me personally, I encountered very noticeable color issues playing SMG with the 1080p resolution setting. Mario's red has weird problems very reminiscent of the chroma subsampling artifacts noticeable on the Gamepad's screen. Switching to 480p and 4:3 seemed to remove the color issue. So for me, 480p seems the best way to play vWii, since the color problem is gone and it's the only way to use the 4:3 aspect ratio, resulting in a more crisp image due to the limitations of the Wii's anamorphic implementation of widescreen. However, it seems 480p mode isn't perfect on Wii U either, and if my memory is correct, the picture on the original Wii with component cables looked better. So, I'll be playing my Wii games on Dolphin instead if I can get the Wii Remote to work with it.
