Homebrew Black screen on o3dsxl BootNTR Selector Mode 3

What do I have to do to get Extended Memory games such as Super Smash Bros., Monster Hunter etc..
to work on japanese O3DS xl region changed to USA (ver. 11.14)? I understand I need both versions: regular & mode 3
of Boot NTR Selector, (which I've only ever used before on N3DS's, not on o3ds) - anyhow

I've even tried using a custom version of Luma I found online made for this problem (10.2.1-dxxxx-xxxxx), to get both versions of Boot NTR Selector to run
I'm under the impression I need both - the standard banner version runs fine and no matter if I choose 3.2, 3.3, or 3.6 -
when I launch the mode 3 version (needed for o3dsxl to run the extended memory games) it just goes to a black screen... help? and thanks~!

BootNTR v2.13.4 isn't compatible with official Luma3DS v10.2.1. Use the Luma3DS v10.2.1 (3GX Loader Edition).

I replaced Luma 10.2.1 (the boot.firm file) w/ the boot.firm for Luma 3GX Loader Edition, trying to get BootNTR Selector Mode 3 to work, so that extended memory games will work.. on o3ds japanese (region changed), but it's looking like no dice for this
