Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets free "nature and art" update

Just as the datamining foretold, Nintendo is releasing free DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Available on April 23 will be Leif's Garden Shop, where he'll sell bushes and flowers. Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler will get you to buy art, while the Museum has expanded to support art donations. Nature Day and May Day will be new holidays where the former offers Nook Mile challenges and the latter gives you a special Nook Miles ticket to visit a special mystery island. International Museum Day will see players able to collect stamps to earn in-game items. Finally, a week-long holiday will take place in June, where you have to take wedding anniversary photos for Reese and Cyrus, where you'll get wedding-themed item rewards.

21st April, 2020 – The latest free update to Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch is bringing new seasonal events to the game, inviting island-goers to experience new faces visiting their island, blossoming flora, various works of art and an expanded museum. This free update and others later in the year will add new experiences to the game that players will be able to enjoy for a long time.

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Free update 23/04/20 (Nintendo Switch) trailer features an overview of the upcoming characters, features and limited-time events. More details below:

Leif’s Garden Shop – Nature-loving Leif regularly visits players’ islands to sell his flourishing assortment of foliage, including shrubs and flower seeds. These decorative items will help make any island paradise a little greener.

Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler – After downloading the free update, Jolly Redd will occasionally show up in his boat to sell in-game art and unique colours of furniture to players. The furniture colours are not available in Nook’s Cranny. Like in previous Animal Crossing games, players will have to figure out which art pieces are real, and which are forgeries.

After purchasing genuine art, players can donate it to the island museum to open an art gallery, which will display all types of donated pieces, from paintings to sculptures.

Nature Day (23rd April 23 - 4th May) – During the Nature Day period, special Nook Miles challenges will be available that focus on nature-inspired goals, such as planting trees and watering flowers.

May Day Tour (1st – 7th May) – In the first week of May, players can use a one-time May Day Ticket at the island airport to head out on a limited-time tour to an island that looks different than the usual mystery island tours. A special visitor who looks familiar might also be there…

International Museum Day (18th – 31st May) – To celebrate International Museum Day, players can take part in a Stamp Rally. After receiving a special stamp card, players can enjoy viewing fish, insects and fossils while collecting stamps at the various museum exhibits to earn an in-game reward.

Wedding Season (1st – 30th June) – During a nuptial-themed June, players can visit Harvey’s island to meet the married couple Reese and Cyrus, as well as help arrange and take anniversary photos with them in the wedding-picture studio. Players will get wedding-themed items as a token of the couple’s gratitude.

Clears voice... In his best Monty python voice... "Bring me a shrubbery!"
Looking forward to this update. More Animal Crossing is never a bad thing.

Really glad this game is getting an update since as of now it's the only game I have been playing. I hope Roost comes back in (hopefully) a May update

I was honestly thinking this game was released unfinished, but it appears as though they are just spacing out completed content to keep people interested and talking about the game to keep long term sales up. Pretty smart thinking.

It's very tedious. Never bothered with the art gallery in any Animal Crossing game. The art ended up being fake 99% of the time anyway, so just used it as house decorations without ever appraising it.
They purposely kept content out just to elongate the game. Then release it as DLC making people think they are getting more then what they paid for. Makes Nintendo look like the nice guy in the end, look we give free dlc unlike those other companies, when it was just cut content in the first place.

What's wrong with elongating the game? That only works towards the favor of Animal Crossing fans. Yes, on other games it would be annoying if content was cut and then added in later (an example would be Pokemon Sword and Shield), but Animal Crossing isn't like other games. Until Nintendo starts making us pay for Animal Crossing DLC, I'm perfectly fine with the way they've done it. The base Animal Crossing experience is already highly polished and optimized and is a wonderful experience, the free DLC is simply an addition to that.

It's the same situation as the Mario Maker DLC. Both games are designed to be played over long periods of time, and both games lack a definitive end. It's strange how people will complain about Animal Crossing DLC but praise Mario Maker DLC.

This is nice. I feel we'll continue to get free content updates for a little while. I don't think they will release a paid DLC at all for this game

So the island will be more crowded?

Just :
- a new vendor on Central Place, where your couldn't place anything
- a Boat in "private/Hidden Beach)
- Some unlocked Mystery Island (at least one)
- Another new Island for the Wedding of two Npc.

Nothing that could really crowd your island. Everything is out of Island

There was 3 fake arts and 1 real in New Leaf when Redd is here. You could just buy them all, but if you know a little bit about art, or do some research (all the arts are credited in the manual), it's not very hard to spot the real art. Personally, I find it a lot of fun, and was missing the art section of the museum.
