Review Approach:
As this is my first review bear with me, but I had a lot of fun with this game so it really made me want to write a review for it so here goes nothing I suppose it won't be long and it won't be spectacular but enjoy I guess?
BOX BOY! is a puzzle platformer created by HAL Laboratory the creators of the famous Kirby series. A game with simple mechanics and more than 17 worlds to complete and many untouchables is it worth the purchase? Lets find out.
Box Boy is a simple yet elegant puzzle platformer game for the Nintendo 3DS it reminds you of those days where graphics weren't everything. A much simpler time where the gameplay took priority, The graphics are nice, the gameplay is nice and it all fits together.
The storyline of Box Boy is pretty much non-existent except for the few non-dialogue cut scenes I came across. From my understanding after watching these, The world was ending and that I had to stop it however, after completing the game I may have been wrong it seems to be a story about a box called Qbby (The name of the Hero) as he perhaps tries to impress his friends who eventually sacrifice themselves to help Qbby progress.
There are 17 Worlds to complete in the main campaign each with its own theme and brand new mechanic which amazed me to no end as I was always eager to discover what new mechanics they could possibly introduce with more Bonus worlds unlocking afterwards. Currently as of writing this review I have only just finished the campaign and might I say it was definitely a lot of fun.
Box Boy also has not two not three but one type of collectible in the form of crowns which award the player a few extra coins at the end of the level and to obtain these you must reach them within a certain limit of boxes that you may use otherwise you have to restart the level. Thankfully though merely killing yourself takes you back to the last checkpoint and gives you back the boxes you used since that last checkpoint.
My favorite parts of the game was definitely getting to see what new costumes I could unlock using my hard earned cash however, the money does seem to pile on quickly which I suppose can be a good thing however the rewards don't always feel earned this way.
To bring the review to a conclusion Box Boy! is a great Nintendo 3DS eShop Title I highly recommend it, You can purchase it off the eShop for the price of $8.50 NZD ($4.99 USD) and it has definitely been one of those games I can say I quite enjoyed.
