The shameful story of my PSP

Let me just preface that I was ~14 when this happened. I was still learning about good and evil.

Thanks to this site I had a 1001 PSP with all the emulators. It was amazing. I don't remember what happened exactly (it was so long ago!), but somehow I managed to brick it. After trying everything, I was desperate.

I knew my best friend's little brother had the exact same model as mine.. (You can probably see where this is going). So the next time I went over to his house, I brought my brick. After waiting for just the right moment, I stealthily swapped the two. I felt like Solid Snake. So badass.

I was still at their house when his little brother realized "his" PSP wouldn't turn on. It felt so bad but how could I tell him I pulled a switch-er-roo? Then I was STILL there after he charged it for a while, and discovered it wouldn't turn on ever again. I remember him going to his dad and telling him about it, and how he wouldn't get another since he "broke it".

That's been weighing on my conscience for a long while, well over a decade now. I took away a younger kid's ability to play his PSP. But hey, "mine" worked perfectly again!

Anyways, I felt like this was the perfect place to get this off my chest. Has anyone done something similar? How much of an asshole was I for doing this? Lol, feel free to ridicule me.

EDIT: How did I forget this? After a few years of using that PSP, I somehow lost it or it was stolen at school. I don't remember what happened, but one day it was just gone. That's karma for you.

Hahahhha your the worst piece of shit ever! I have never done anything like it, and probably never will! KIDDING!

Here is the deal, your age DOES matter, if you were 14, then you had no grasp of right and wrong, not yet. But sure, it was really bad, but you cannot blame yourself for something you did at that age.

Now if you still feel guilty about that, it is simple, there is only one thing to do. You go to the kid, now grown and tell him the story, then, give him a brand new PSP.

If you are a christian, that is how is done, you dont just ask hipocriticaly for forgiveness in the shadows, you do what I just said.

Ha! I'm not christian, more like a failed Buddhist, but that still seems like the perfect solution for karmic realignment.

I'll see if that's possible. Pretty sure I can still get in contact with both of them. Just need to see if I can find a PSP.

A nintendo Switch might do the trick if I can't get a PSP, but that'll put a hurt on my pocket cash. I'll do something for him.. eventually.

Edit: suppose a Vita would work well, but I'd also want to keep that for myself LOL, gotta get 2.

I am glad I could of assistance somehow casualties. Still, a boxed PSP in great condition would not necessarily be cheap. Of course, you then would put custom firmware on it, so he can enjoy what YOU enjoyed on his PSP! :)

Trying not to scratch it or anything, after putting custom firmware on it and (you know and SD adapter with many games on it), you gently clean it with a soft cloth and isopropilic alcohol so it looks like new again. Then put it in the box.

That was just an idea! Because it depends if this person likes vintage gaming or not. My best wishes, and anything you do, if you do it with honesty, it will come out great!

@nashimo You want expensive? Look for PSP Go's on eBay. Not only are they rare, but I think people know what people looking to use them for totally legit purposes know how much people would pay for a device like the PSP Go that can do so much so well, all things considered. (kind of wish emulation of 16-bit consoles was a bit better, though)

Lol! You make a great point. Really enjoyed that mental image. Thankfully neither of our PSP's were in great shape. No screen protectors and he was ~10 at the time. Pretty sure his was scratched more than mine.

Honestly I'm surprised he didn't notice the difference in scratch marks, but I doubt I would have noticed either.

So a used one hopefully would be enough. And of course I would put the CFW and SD adapter! It would just be rude otherwise.

And REMEMBER! He might not care, or he might tell you that he doesn't care now, if you tell him the story. But, YOU DO, you care, you might even have a good laugh with him, but clear your conscience, there is nothing nicer than having a clean conscience (at least somehow), everything you do after that just feels better, dancing singing, etc hahahhha I am not kidding here!

Cheers again.

Screens on PSPs seem to be prone to scratches and marks that simply don't come out, in my experience. This was the case with a 2000-series PSP of mine, and even with the PSP Go I got earlier this year.

@Silent_Gunner, they really are super sensitive to scratches! If some keys even gently brushed up against the screen, you have a huge scratch. That sucks you already scratched the PSP Go!

@nashismo that is some quality advice right there! I wish I could do the same with one of my friends that passed away, but that's a story for another shameful blog post, lol (I'm not why he died though! Don't think that!) I've mostly 'come to terms' with that story.

Thanks for the kind words and help. <3

@TheCasualties It's not too bad. The first PSP I got (the 2000 model) was a lot worse than the GO one. It's just that I heard that screen protectors don't exactly help with this system, for some reason.

I thought about getting a PS Vita now and again, but I just could never justify it. Yeah, it has every button for all of the different game types, can probably handle the homebrew the PSP struggles with, and everything else in between, but it isn't gonna be the end of the world if I miss out on those features for a little bit more of the in-the-pocket convenience the PSP Go offers. It's not like I'm gonna play something like Syphonfilter or Armored Core on my PSP Go!
