Just a quick blog to expand what's going on with the pig most of you will look at at least once a day.
Yesterday lunchtime we gave him a bit of cucumber as a midday snack and he seemed absolutely fine. When his dinner time came around he was not interested one bit in his food - This is a pretty bad sign in a guinea pig as they must constantly have food (and/or hay) going through their digestive system or things can go bad pretty quickly. But no matter what we offered him he just wouldn't accept it.
About 3 am while my wife was sleeping, I decided to start feeding him Critical Care. It's basically a nutritionally complete powder that you mix with some water and syringe feed every 2 hours. So day or night I'm now around him feeding him this nutritious slurry. We did see a vet earlier today who has prescribed him some painkillers and something to make sure his gut continues to operate as we slowly get him back to solid food.
Paddy is doing ok and the vet is optimistic that he will pull through and as I say he is doing well if being a bit grumpy. I say a bit grumpy but if you look at a picture of Conker from Conker's bad fur day where he is sitting on the throne with the glass of milk at the start... you will get the gist of the look of pure, unadulterated annoyance he has on his face.
