fool's notes entry #1

they say that trials makes someone into a better man;
that obstacles are just in your head;
that nothing is impossible if you really try;

but the main reason for those to happen is that one must have a determined heart. he must first believe that he can do it.

as a child, you know you can cross the street if you're with an older person.

but you ask, what about when you grow up? you can cross the street alone, it only takes you to try once alone.

but before you tried to cross the street alone, you crossed it with a grownup a hundred times before. you learned from experience, not because you "simply tried".

yet another chicken before the egg, or egg before the chicken thread.
I am a chicken before the egg type of guy. Some things you jump into before you really know what they are or what to call them. that is how a fool becomes a wise man. living after jumping in and then telling people about the wonderful thing he learned. Does it truly make him wise? not really just the fool who did it first and survived to talk about it. that they can be called wise by other fools is just another thing that is out of the control of that particular fool.

paraphrased daoist wisdom.

can you please set a solid example so that we can get on the same page. because the way i analyze things is to get down the exact details of a particular situation and compare it with others.

Do you need to compare a paraphrased daoist wisdom with another paraphrased daoist wisdom? or just any wisdom?

not really related to my last post... but the kids I have seen have no problem crossing the street without first being shown how to cross. They mostly need to be watched and to be told to watch out before they cross so they don't get hit by some form of automobile.

should I be worried that you don't want to grow up?

Maybe I should ask you to explain some more so that i can get on the same page as you.
So please explain as you have used many mixed messages in that one post.
mainly in them i saw a chicken before the egg analogy that seems to indicate you need experience before you do something or vice versa.

Change is constant and always happening around us sometimes at rates that don't appear to be doing anything. But just because our limited perceptive abilities cannot pickup the change doesn't mean that it doesn't exist albeit slowpaced or so fast paced we cannot bare witness.
Do we need to experience those changes to learn from them or to prove they exist?

more esoteric weirdness:
does it really matter if we do learn from those changes?

or do you need more on fools? I wasn't calling you one... one of my online names translates to that -"fool". I have spent a great deal of time on being one. In the hopes learning.
One of the most important and off topic lessons I have learned is that being hit by one lightning strike (an accident) is a very different experience than getting hit by a second lightning strike (the second I sought to re-experience what happened the first time).

Looking forward to the next "fools notes".

well what i really meant is that you must have and idea and confidence in what you are doing.
other than that, it's just pure chance.

it's not a chicken before the egg since i'm talking about one's ability to think about if he can do it or not.
reading back, i admit i chose a bad example for it does not represent exactly what i mean.

but let me tell you a personal experience
1. when i was in a camping with me and my classmates, we went to this river and played there. i had no trouble jumping into the water.
2. but then one day we again went to swim in a river near our school where i nearly drowned,
3. after that i went with my relatives to a pool and i never wanted to go in the water, i was even crying. even though i was able to do so during camping. but at this moment, i forgot about said camping, all i remembered was the drowning incident. i know this is a result of a psychological trauma.

suddenly, i remembered what i forgot. and just like that, i was into the water, they didn't even know what happened. one moment i was afraid, then i love the water.

1. i saw them jumping. it seemed fun and doesn't appear to be that dangerous so i followed suit.
2. trauma blinded me. thus forgetting how it felt like and fearing the unknown.
3. i suddenly remembered how it felt like, which gives me my confidence back so i was able to go into the water.

i know that people say not to be afraid of the unknown, that there isn't anything to be scared of. but the things we saw and know are probably different.
for example.
boy a succeeded 9 out of 10 attempts - he'll say this is easy.
boy b succeeded 1 out of 10 attempts - he'll say this is hard.

in that example they were being told what to do so they know. hence they had an idea what they will do and have confidence since probably the one who told them is someone they trust.

if they tried to cross and wasn't told to watch out and didn't watch out coz they didn't know what to watch out. they'd probably get hit by a car. or be lucky and not get hit or there was no vehicle at all.
in this i add "ignorance is a bliss", not knowing the consequences (or at least assuming that you have control of a situation) gives you the confidence to do it.

but if they know that there are cars, and not know about traffic lights and when to cross, they would stand there wondering what to do. they try to observe and learn for themselves.
