Developer CRAFTS & MEISTER and publisher Bandai Namco have today revealed the launch date for Gundam Breaker 4. For the occasion, an announcement trailer was aired:

In this new GUNDAM BREAKER 4 trailer, players can discover more about the customisation, including the presence of SD Gundam, the possibility to change the size of all parts individually and to create their own colour preset based on either their preferences or their favourite Gundam.

GUNDAM BREAKER 4 will have players fighting their enemies solo or with up to two friends in co-op multiplayer. In addition, the game goes back to the roots of the franchise letting players create the Gunpla of their dreams with a large collection of mobile suits and parts, as well as a new diorama mode.

Gundam Breaker 4 will launch on August 29 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam.

Why is Namco obsessed with Gundam????
Because, no joke, Gundam's merchandise alone is worth more than the Supermajority of IPs out there. ALMOST Legit outsells the ENTIRE Batman IP In Merchandise alone, and DOES do so to Dragon Ball Z. Basically put, Gundam's the real Money Maker under Bamco's belt.

What's the last gundam sim that was any good? last one i remember playing is for dreamcast. i'm not a fan of the 3rd person style gundam games (though this one looks great for what it is).

Depend on what you mean by 'Sim'.

If you can excuse the net code and jank, Gundam Battle Operation is the closest to feeling like UC Era Gundam.

If speed action's more your thing, maybe SD Gundam Battle Alliance. Admittably more chibi and story basically cliffnotes the living hell out of most of the anime entries.

If you mean like Turn Based combat on a gridded battlefield, G Gen Cross Rays is available in English.

If you mean like GB4 here, then you can Import Gundam Breaker 3 in a SEA English port. Avoid New Gundam Breaker

Edit:
If you don't mind dealing with a private server, Gundam Evolution still exists via a private server known as "Side 7". Look that up.

Battle Operation, which was (still is maybe?) an online game.

There hasn’t been a real single player campaign-based Gundam “sim” in forever like Rise from the Ashes, which is probably the Dreamcast game you’re talking about.

Thank y'all for the recommendations, they're greatly appreciated. I'll try them all out! Chibi doesn't sound fun, but i won't know till I try.

Rise from the ashes, I think that's the one I played. By sim, i think "cockpit sim" might have been a better word for me to use. I don't mind the 3rd person perspective, but I think I appreciated the games which feel like you're actually playing in a gundam, and not just a generic action game with gundams. So realistic physics, and a bit of "strategy while you're going pewpew and ZWAAAANG".

to get back on track, I wonder how fun this game will be when compared to the more realistic ones.

Yeah no the cockpit sim type was exclusive to Rise from the Ashes, and likely wouldn't work often if at all again.

Lemme expand on earlier:

The big ones I suggest for that 'Gundam' feel are GBO2, where low-rank units are as clunky as you'd imagine, up to high-rank (not rarity) who can do some mind boggling stuff and is all UC Gundam, excluding the Freedom gundam crossover on PC. But the connections can be wonky and are peer-to-peer. It feels closest to how you'd remember RftA, legit.

If you don't mind Japanese only, there's also Gundam 0081 in a similar vein I'd say.

And Gundam Breaker 3 was generally considered peak Action Gundam design (I never played it sadly, I played New Gundam Breaker which uhh... ow. Bad changes, Worse Story). And from the Beta Test for Switch's Gundam Breaker 4, seems opinions are set that early game feels as good if maybe better than Gundam Breaker 3. Since there's little spoiler to speak of, you can look up RedWolfVion's videos on the Beta Network Test for GB4.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance definitely isn't bad though, I'd say it feels halfway between a Dynasty Warriors (for mooks) and Souls/Nioh-type (in terms of executing skilled blocks/dodges and managing boost and the 'ammo' on abilities that refresh over time) for Gameplay. It has minimal story bar going over Gundam history and 'addressing errors in canon', with a light plot thread that strings it all together. It's worth picking up.

If Strategy ala Fire Emblem's your thing, you can go G Gen Cross Rays, or, if you like other mecha franchises (IE: Code Geass, TTGL, Evangelion) you can invest into the oldest running Crossover Series of all, Super Robot Wars. There's no 'pilotting' suits, but every entry has some form of Gundam in it, with SRW 30 including Zeta, CCA, Narrative, Victory, and Iron Blooded Orphans (ala DLC for the latter, but it kinda ties into the plot anyhow). Most SRWs are NOT Fire Emblems hard, but they do have some amazing callbacks to their source materials.

Edit: including a video for Super Robot Wars 30 below, enjoy.

Edit 2: Reply asking for just about any mecha anime and I'll likely have an SRW video for it to DM you, just including this one :)

As a Gundam fan, I was excited for this until I heard that the developer was the same developer for Gundam New Breaker, and that game was terrible. I'll wait a bit. Plus, I hate how Bandai handles their collector's editions. If I wanted to buy this game's collector's edition, which is basically the game plus an exclusive Entry Grade Gunpla kit, it would cost me more than the collector's edition itself to have it shipped. Bandai seems to hate anyone that doesn't live in Japan or America.

It's also made by the same team who made Breaker 3, surprise there! The NGB team basicaly got told off, and the game plays DRASTICALLY more similar to GB3.
