With the chips now being visible and not scratched. Has anyone done a cost to make analysis for bulk manufacturers. Since Unlock Switch said they are open sourcing their flashcart then I think I am going to wait a while but want to know what the cost to make is for clones and will wait for the price of the open source versions.
It's not really for Chinese games. I matched up a US release of Mario Wonder to files in one of the folders. Game still won't load though. I have the correct XCI.Same here
I found a pack but for chinese games so thats why it doesn’t work I guess
Again, coming from a guy who doesn't have one, but like, I thought I heard the initial data file has to come from the same physical cart as the xci, not just the correct xci? I could have things confused though. It's not really for Chinese games. I matched up a US release of Mario Wonder to files in one of the folders. Game still won't load though. I have the correct XCI.

People don’t read it’s as simple as that. How did the assumption that the initial data is not tied to the physical cart itself come about? I have seen that being mentioned repeatedly, even by those who have yet to receive their own carts. I don't recall MIG ever saying such a thing. Was it an overly optimistic/eager conjecture raised by a random person that got passed on many times in forums until it became a "fact" despite no one ever having proven it to be the case? Was it a result of conflation with the cert?
Post them on Facebook marketplaceI just got 2 mig switches in the mail today. It's laughable how easy it is to smuggle these in to the states, after my initial SX Core orders got seized by customs. Have not had any issues like that again since then.
However I'm going to return these 2 mig switches, they are impossible to sell.
People said the same thing about the SX chip and look what happened...Don't know what the BOM is but I doubt that it will drop to rock bottom prices for us consumers. The BOM should be low but there's more to the pricing than just that.
Reason being that even if it were eventually open sourced, not many folks would be willing to risk ninty's wrath by making it. Logistics of manufacturing and distribution isn't exactly a walk in the park either. As such, supply would still be largely constrained and by extension, pricing as well. This is a gray area trade with no honour to speak of, so every one of them would be out to gouge us for the risk they are taking. Too low a profit (relative to legal risk) and they can't be bothered.
Heck, just look at the current situation. Even MIG themselves are having issues trying to fulfill orders for the cart, let alone the dumper which has not had any word of going into mass production any time soon.
Cheap isn't necessarily a good thing either. The cheaper versions could have the same profit margins as the more expensive ones, just that they maintain it by cutting corners (eg cheaper components). Some may even come with hidden limitations like time bombs, being unable to update, etc. Or they do not keep up with firmware updates.
Bear in mind that this won't be a real "open source" either because it is essentially ripping MIG's and just dumping it on the net - ie more of a leak. It's not a consensual collaborative effort like Linux is. Every one of them will be doing their own thing and keeping their versions closed, probably even unlocked's future updates. Even when stealing from each other, there is a surprising amount of jealousy to safeguard their "own work".
Just my 2 cents.

Although the utility for a MIG is a lot less interesting because it merely allows running backups and not third-party code.
heh I think the buy/sell on here has too many FBI watching it.Post them on Facebook marketplace
I’ve been seeing people sell theirs locally here super fast
The buy sell trade section here may even have a taker or two
This has to be the best explanation video of the current mig switch "issue" I've watched. Very very interesting point of views!
That’s an old video what “issue” are you talking about ?
