Let him be - when gateway releases the files he'll find them and cry a river of salty tears because his theory was wrong all along.

Just report this guy for trolling. He's obviously a PagaN/Thomas type of guy.

LOL - Compared to Gateway - I'm a troll am I?

IF they release "files" to enable all the world's Nintendo 3DS's to be downgraded to 4.5 sysnand then I will eat (a part of) my underpants.

No theory. It's been possible for awhile. There was the info released a few weeks (month?) ago or so that allowed you to cross flash your 3ds to another region.

How is GW going to release these "downgrade packs" without getting in trouble, the only thing they could possibly be is copies of official 4.5....
I don't think the downgrade packs are gonna actually downgrade the whole firmware. There was some thread a few weeks ago, where someone was able to get blocked DS flashcards working on EmuNAND by tricking the system into installing some older software parts, that didn't blacklist many flashcards. Gateway will probably do the same sort of thing: Trick the system into installing older software parts, that are used in firmware 4.x, to get Gateway working without the need to go to the exploit webpage every time (they'll pretty much downgrade the DS Profile mode stuff so that Gateway can be booted offline.) None of that is official obviously, but it's my guess. Plus, it's way easier on their servers for people to download a few older software parts than an entire copy of the 4.x firmware (which can be around 1 GB.)

Stop being a derp. Gateway has released everything they've ever promised they would. Why the hell would you bet against them with that existing track record?

If the feature is there why haven't they released the assets?
- The feature isn't tested enough. If this is the case, probably you have to upgrade the launcher when the files are up there. Most possible trouble comes from the code instead of the files. We know the assets are mostly coming from some NUS files.
- If you can downgrade without GW Red card, it'll be very easy for other flashcarts to make use of this to revive their carts. If this is the case, you have to upgrade the launcher when the feature is enabled.

However, I believe Gateway has already done this feature inside their lab. Just some polish work or protections left.

Yes and TVs have software that can make it look just as good
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Upscaling to 4k just copies and adds pixels next to existing pixel to make the image bigger. Sometimes upscalling makes the image look worse even. blurry.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It depends on the amount of nits per TV
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you get a 250nit TV with HDR the 400nit TV is going to look better without HDR
  • Veho @ Veho:
Upscaling sometimes resamples images. It's just just a "closest neighbour and then some" duplicating, you have directional gradients, multidirectional gradients, all sortsa bullshit.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Nits is brightness
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah and a dull bright display is going to look like shit Compared to a brighter that's the pointin LED brightness
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But that has nothing to do w upscaling
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
It does because if you have those features and a dull display what's the point
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Hence some cheap display claim to have HDR but it's just upscaling
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Hdr is the color spectrum tho, not resolution
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
And if you got a dimm ass display what's the point of having any fancy name option
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Nitts have nothing to do with resolutions

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Software and level of brightness play a key role in picture quality HDR is like an expensive filter added by manufacturer
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I notice the 4k difference in blueray movies but not much in games. But the HDR is noticeable in games. I'm on a 4k 120hz Tv and Series X. I imagine games will get better tho.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Most film industries shoot at native 4k VS a game company that makes the game native 1080p then rely on software to upscale the image to look better
    +1
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
True 4k games would probably be insane in GBs
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea I can see that being the case. I almost bought a 8k tv, but figured I'd make my house payment instead. They expensive af.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
That's how RDR2 looked so good at the time 150GB gta6 will probably be around 200
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Makes sense. 1080p Dvd- 4.7-8.5gb, 4k blueray- 25-50gb
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
And why games had to basically ditch physical the install game probably installs at 1080 then all your other files upgrades the 4k textures
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
A movie obviously not requiring texture packs
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I want that 8k game on physical, ok that'd be 25 disks to install.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Physical is ass imagine the 4th install disc arriving cracked
