Playtonic Games have announced a new entry in the Yooka-Laylee series - a game that started life on Kickstarter back in 2015.

Unlike its predecessor, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that shares several similarities with the new Donkey Kong Country games including the music for the game again being composed by industry veterans David Wise and Grant Kirkhope.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is releasing this year on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Steam.

Another game to buy for background music in my room. :ninja:

Now I wonder how good it will be? Still not sure with the "Explore 3D overhead view"

I'm just a bit skeptical from before, like finding the feather things and it being really hidden in some awkward places that they expect you to just come across naturally but you don't. One stray collectable like that and it's gonna be instant dislike for me.

I understand the game is 2D and focus more on platforming than exploring, but people don't let their guard down easily from previous bad experiences. DK 64 100% turned me off from "Collectathon" games. Feels like bad sonic games where the only thing I end up liking is the music. :ninja:

Hm, Yooka-Laylee was nothing great (mainly because the worlds had nothing in them) but this looks like fun. I’ve been wanting another DKC for a while and this might hold me over.

Im pretty happy Yooka is getting a sequel, though I prefer 3D gameplay, the 2.5D still looks fun!

Sweet! Happy to see that Yooka Laylee isn't a dead IP. I hope this game gets a physical release on Switch.

Not saying this will be a bad game or anything, but it does seem like a stopgap for their next open world game.

Did they finish all their kickstarter promises?

I played the original on the ps4 and despite a few hiccups I really enjoyed it I personally enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of the game.

The new approach seems interesting. I may wind up enjoying this more than the first one.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you although I'm not a fan of top down styled titles but I'm prepared to give this game a shot.

Looks fun. I assume they realized they were all shit at 3D level design so they took it down a dimension. Seems to have worked.

While the 2D side-scrolling sections are reminiscent of the Donkey Kong Country games, I can't help but feel that the top down overworld is based off Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (the GBA interquel of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie). Honestly, I really want to see how they'll handle this sort of gameplay and I'm sure that if it does well they'll probably try their hand at 3d platforming again (or something more akin to the Crash Bandicoot trilogy, which is kind of a mix of both). Who knows.

My brother, on the other hand, wasn't as excited about it since he just wanted another classic 3D Banjo game.
