(Holy molly i meant FAT not fast baka moi)

the thing is, i have alot of things inside my internal HDD of my FAT ps3, the hdd is around 250gb/ or 320gb i dont remember.

    haven't really checked.
but i have alot of games copied into it, and it is basically important to me that if i were to replace it with a Slim.

the reason why i want to replace my FAT ps3 is because lately it keeps overheating again and again and it is getting really tiring.

iirc. i had YLOD on it for like just once, but it fixed itself somehow and was good again.
but nowadays it is starting to overheat again and this obviously will turn into YLOD if i were to keep it on.

it starts overheating right after like 5 minutes, at times it happens after 30minutes.

one more thing guys, well about my FAT ps3 i have Rogero CFW + Cobra mode enabled (for ps2 isos) and i use webman , i do not have that advanced fan control thingie on, so that is not the fault of the console overheating.

but one thing i want to say is, that over the last couple of days i filled up the internal hdd with some more ps2 isos, so i copied around 20gigs onto it, and i had aroudn 28gb still left, and after that a day passed and it started overheating, i thought maybe that copying so many games into the internal hdd has triggered the overheating , or do you think it has nothing to do with it ?

now to my final question (sorry to make this thread so complicated!)

if i were to replace my FAT with a new Slim ps3, and lets say the slim has already CFW on it, can't i just swap my internal HDD into the Slim one so that i still have all of my data?

or how exactly am i supposed to go with backing up / restoring the data from my internal hdd of the fat into the slim ?

    thanks !

not sure if you just can put it into the new ps3. I remember that I once lost all my files just because the hdd was disconnected. Afaik it is not so easy to read the PS3 file system via a pc.
I would just copy all game to a external hdd, also the savegames. After that you can copy them to your new ps3. If that takes too long get some of the games again.

hmmmm, i think you are right, maybe i should just FTP all of the data i need into my computer.
what are some important folders that i'd need ?

especially the saves !! can you tell me which folders they are in ?
also what other folders should i copy, i have actually no ps3 based games installed onto the internal hdd, just mostly ps2 games.

so about ps2, there is only 2 games i have played and would like my saves copied over, firstly one save is from an iso of xenosaga ep1 (the save is located in virtual ps2 memory card, is it possible to get this save file copied over?)if not ,it is no big deal as i only played for 30 minutes!

but the other game is WildArms Alter code f (it is a PS2 classic, installed it as a pkg) is the save from this game available for backing up?and also the game itself too i hope?

well i am now ftping my the internal hdd content from my fat hdd into my pc for now.
it is roughly around 90gb only.

can't wait to get it replaced with a new ps3 ,this time the slim version.
and hoping it will last me as long as this fat one did.

it is now 7years old or so, so i'm good with departing with it.

i hope all will go well after ftping eveyrthing back onto the new ps3.

I am not totally sure how you can backup the savegames. Maybe there is an official way to do so? In the PS3 menu? Maybe there is a homebrew for that, not sure if it is connected to your PSN acc... I think PS2 Classics use the virtual memory card, shouldn't be too hard to backup these...

edit: I mean backup AND use still use them on another console. Not sure if it is just drag and drop.

to fix the over heating, take the system apart, add some liquid flux to the board and chips and "reflow" the board after the flux dries. Then add some new thermal paste to your cpu and RSX/gpu chip for better cooling. Also look into popping the ihs off the rsx and replace that thermal paste as well and you should be good.

For the overheating part - I'm using an USB cooler, it's not much help, but it cools the console a bit.

oh well , i went on ahead and brought a Slim (it is a used one) there is CFW on it.

i downgraded it though so that i could put back Rebug Cfw on it.
i am on the latest now, guys i have a question.

i had some games from the hdd0 of my old fat ps3's the ones that i had installed in it as pkg , they were basically stored like this hdd0/game/gameid <

what i did was i simply backed up the games i wanted to move over to the slim ps3 that i recently brought to test out first before buying (they sell em for 120$)
so far it shows not much sign of overheating.

anyway the few games i had backed up and placed into the slim are not showing up, this is because they were linked to my user from the fat ps3 right?
is there any way to somehow make it work as i do not have the pkg files of those games anymore :/

^^ I know this thread is a couple of weeks old now but just for anyone reading this do NOT reflow a PS3 that hasn't yet YLOD'd! Do the thermal paste on top of and under the IHS but under no circumstances should you reflow if the PS3 works.

    Exactly that.

Reflowing isn't a permanent solution and can often lead to more harm being done to the system.

Yup. Basically ending the system's life early when there might be nothing wrong with it.

I do have a PS3 I'm going to try to reflow but it was free, it's already broken and I have 2 other working ones so I'll make an exception for that one lol.
