Daisuke Sato, the producer of the Yakuza series publicly expresses interest in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, but also says that his take would be "completely different."
During a recent series of interviews of Daisuke Sato of RGG Studios by Sega Europe on YouTube, he openly shows interest in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. While he doesn't go into much detail on his concept, he does claim that it will be "completely different" from previous titles. He acknowledges the franchise's popularity, and even points out the success of the recent Sonic the Hedgehog film. While his recent work on the Yakuza franchise will likely skew what people think his vision looks like, he has also worked on the Super Monkey Ball and Shenmue franchises. His most recent project, Yakuza: Like a Dragon has recently released on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, with a PlayStation 5 version coming on March 2, 2021.
