As per a live broadcast with Masayoshi Yokoyama of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio yesterday, the port which came out three days ago outperformed their expectations, by a long shot.

Yokoyama: First of all, I heard that ‘Kiwami’ is selling like hotcakes. That's good. The executives of the company were predicting the number of units. I missed it by a long shot. I think I looked at it a bit too conservatively. Kato, the marketing manager, guessed it, but it was very exciting. It was 20 years ago when I made the first Yakuza game. And then it was changed to ‘Kiwami’, but even ‘Kiwami’ had already been released, hadn't it? It's been out for a long time, and I thought it was something that people all over the world had touched, but this time, with the Amazon Prime drama and all the other things that happened, it's on Switch. Well, it's already a port, you know. And it's a download-only game. As someone who makes games, I'm very happy that people are playing it again. It's difficult to remake games. It's not easy to sell a game once more. That's why I'm so happy. I'm very happy. I think there are a lot of people who want to play the Switch one more time. I downloaded it too. It's nice to be able to take it with you.

It seems that the guy has come around, and that he is no longer allergic to money. It's probably too late for the Switch now, but with expectation-breaking sales here, the chances are good that the Switch's successor will be considered, as far as porting the rest of the series goes.

Port is pretty well done I'd say outside of some performance issues (hope they get fixed in a patch, still largely playable). Hope the other games get ported over, although Switch can probably only run the non Dragon Engine stuff. I just hope we don't get cloud versions like Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts.

if kiwami 2 isn't possible, then at least 0 would be nice

And i was under the impression this games were played to exhaustion lol.

This is good news. The Yakuza ip is quite good in terms of story, and for us non japanese, a fun way to learn about some japanese ways.

it sold so well, in fact, that the digital download code card made it 24th in the list of physical sales for the week of october 21-27

https://www.gematsu.com/2024/10/famitsu-sales-10-21-24-10-27-24

digital-only game. 24th in the list of physical software. just because code cards sold so well

there is also a survey from sega to gauge interest in more yakuza on switch

https://www.sega.jp/enquete/switch-ryukwm/

https://www-sega-jp.translate.goog/..._sl=ja&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=it&_x_tr_pto=wapp

as per reddit:

The questions are the following:
  1. When did you buy the game?
  2. Where have you heard/seen the game?
  3. Which one of the previous answers was the first time you learned about the game? Which one made you decide to buy the game?
  4. Why did you buy this game? [Also includes 'because it released on Nintendo Switch']
  5. Which of the previous answers was the deciding factor?
  6. Rate various aspects of the game on a scale 1-5.
  7. Rate the game on a scale 1-10.
  8. What marketing material/channels did you see? Which one was the most impressive?
  9. Have you bought any other Yakuza game before? [Includes every single release]
  10. Would you buy a future Yakuza/Like a Dragon entry?
  11. On what platform would you buy the next game? Do you have a second choice? [Includes Nintendo Switch]
  12. Do you have any specific feedback for Yakuza Kiwami on Nintendo Switch?
  13. What gaming platform do you own?
  14. Which of the previous answers do you actually play games on?
  15. Select your favorite genres.
  16. How many games did you buy in the past year?
  17. Which gaming publication do you read?
  18. Which of the previous do you read the most?
  19. Select genre and birth year/month
  20. Select your occupation
At question 12 you can leave empty, machine translate something, or you can also answer with the following:
極1のフレームレート改善のアプデと早いうちに次回作の発表があればユーザーに好印象だと思います。
Which translates to:
I think an update to improve the framerate of Yakuza Kiwami and a fast announcement of the next Yakuza [port on Switch] would please users.

Aww.
0 would be nice.

Not that I'd play it.
But it'd look nice in my binder. (Just like P5R looks nice in my binder tihi)

Also, this:

I wonder if they'd sell well if they ported every RGG game, all the Like a Dragon/Yakuzas and Judgment 1 and 2. It's quite a few games.

The cloud nonsense must be fixed in Switch 2 and I assume it will be. Just make it where games can be a large size.

I do think Yakuza developers are likely to port Yakuza 0, 3, 4, 5 and Ishin to Switch.

Yakuza Kiwami 2, 6, Like a Dragon, Infinite Wealth, Judgment and Lost Judgment likely come to Switch 2 or cloud version for OG Switch because of their engine, unless developers modify the engine to run on outdated hardware.
Post automatically merged:

I just hope we don't get cloud versions like Resident Evil and Kingdom Hearts.
Kingdom Hearts (1, 2, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance) can handle with Switch without cloud but sadly, Square Enix is too lazy to do extra work to port those games.

Kingdom Hearts 3 - they run on UE4 and if Switch can run Dragon Quest XI, so it is possible and it would need more work.
