"Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition" coming to Nintendo Switch

One of the few remaining games that was still trapped on the Wii U console is now escaping its entrapment and making its way to the Nintendo Switch in 2025.

Out of the blue, Nintendo released a brand new trailer today for an upcoming remaster release of "Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition" for the Nintendo Switch, with improved visuals and added story elements. Xenoblade Chronicles X was originally released for the Nintendo Wii U back in 2015, and it was still one of the very few titles that remained exclusive to the Wii U. With this new announcement, this marks yet another title from the failed Wii U that makes its way into the Nintendo Switch, like Bayonetta 2, Super Mario 3D World and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, to name a few.

Rebuild humanity and survive on the mysterious planet Mira in this open-world action RPG! This visually enhanced version includes newly added story elements and more. The Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition game launches on the Nintendo Switch system March 20, 2025. Pre-orders are available now on Nintendo eShop.

The list of Wii U titles that are still exclusive to the system keeps shrinking, but there are still a handful of main titles that have yet to make their jump into the Switch, like Devil's Third, Star Fox Zero, the original Splatoon, and of course, the two most requested ports to the Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD & The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, with many rumours floating around for years now about both of them coming to the Switch at some point.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will launch on Nintendo Switch consoles on March 20th, 2025.

I am not sure what to say about this, it is too late... perhaps it is not.
I want to play this game, I wanted to play this game so much.
I mean, I still have the original in the Wii U, I still have my Wii U, it still works.
I don't usually play on my Wii U... but why... I guess because the Gamepad battery lasts as much as it takes for the game to load... perhaps it is that. It is somewhat cumbersome to use nowadays.

But I liked this game, and I played a bit, only some 25 hours perhaps... I didn't finish it... but why? Hmmm... I am almost sure it was due to problems with the UI, my eyes couldn't keep up with that text size and I got frustrated. I hope they fix that...
Anyway I have so little time to play games lately, that's the reason I say it is too late, it's totally a me thing, but hell it is annoying... I've been waiting for this game to be ported to Switch with <<appropriate>> text size for a long time, but it is perhaps too late for me... I might say similar things about Metroid Prime 4, I've waited forever. But oh well...

(please somebody give me back my life... maybe I should stop working, learning languages, aging and stuff so I can play games again... /s???)

PS: We still miss the Xenosaga port, and also the Xenogears remake... I'll keep waiting, I'll buy them whenever they release, and then I won't play them

Why should we stop talking about censorship? That's going to be one of the key discussion points surrounding this release (and indeed the original release). Besides which, we already know it's censored, so no need to put it in quotes.
Someone mentioned that the Japanese description says it's based on the western release, and modern Nintendo is so ironically puritanical that there's no way it doesn't stay censored (assuming it doesn't get even worse).

That, and I for one don't appreciate communists like @NinStar who think censorship can be justified. Nobody should give leniency to commies.

You're wrong, that's exactly what it's about. Or do we need to bring up the video game violence argument again? You implication that the "clear intentions behind it" are some kind of pedo shit is frankly disturbing and says a lot more about you than the people who just don't want censorship.

To dismiss all that by just insulting other people shows that you both have no argument and only care about ad hominem attacks. Funny, because you can just dislike it - that's totally fine - but instead, you're outright defending it.

All the butchered translations and censorship in other Xenoblade games (and other games besides) are already bad enough. This one's just more obvious.

If I get it, it'll be second-hand with mods, like with the bastardised Thousand-Year Door remake. I'm sick of people (westerners in particular) filtering media through their narrow lens for everyone else to consume instead of giving us the unfiltered version and assuming we're old enough to decide for ourselves how to interpret said media.
The poor translations don't get talked about enough!
The english versions don't mention a recurring theme about the blue bloods.

Yeah the UI and menus was basically the #1 complaint about the original. Even fixing that is a huge improvement.

lol what is Nintendo gonna release on their next console ?

This is what I'm curious about they've re-released just about everything, if they just rely on new releases it'll be the Wii U. It takes years to make a new game not that I'm against new games and for remakes, I'm good unless they want to remake Earthbound or any of the Mothers, Super Metroid or something along those lines, but just from their perspective.

That's why I think there's no way a new Nintendo console is retrocompatible. They absolutely need to be able to re-re-release all those old games to sustain a console.

Switch 2 is definitely gonna be backcompat. It's too stupid not to do it. What they'll absolutely be doing is release a bunch of Switch 2 exclusive graphic enhancement patches for original switch games though.

Sony was doing that before they got greedy. If Sony still let people upgrade to the PS5 versions of PS4 games they previously owned, more people would buy a PS5.

Giving people a reason to buy it by making them feel like their existing collection of games will be improved, rather than releasing PS5 "remakes" of games that are essentially worse remasters of games they already own.

We'll see :P Why are you so sure Nintendo isn't stupid and greedy ? ;)

Hasn't "releasing Switch remakes of games people already own" been Nintendo's strategy for a years already ? Why do you think they'll suddenly stop doing that when a new console comes out ?

Because the WiiU sold like ass and they were trying to recoup costs somehow lol

i wouldn't go this far, but I agree with the gist. It was the weakest xenoblade game by FAR and possibly the weakest xeno- game, but I still liked it (with cheats). I also had the feeling of it being it a bit boring which was solved by cheats and fast run.
...........cheats.........

Why even play it then.....

New games take more and more time and money to get made, it's much more cost-efficient to put out remakes/remasters. Nintendo can't possibly sustain a new console with enough new games (as you said it happened with the Wii U), they need to be able to re-release old games, just like Sony.

Because cheats can sometimes alleviate a game's flaws and m:ake it enjoyable.

See the game is kinda reliant on you playing in a specific way for enjoyment from what I've experienced. It isnt a game where you can just go through the story and ignore stuff. It is the kind of game where to enjoy it you have to do side content in take in the world and it's society. And well that just isn't for everyone.

Sony had to do that because no one developed games for the PS5. PS4 games work on the PS5 anyway so there's even less of a reason for them to do it and is pretty much why they're bleeding money.

Third party developers are how consoles thrive, not a constant stream of new games from the owner. The WiiU had very few, and the PS5 has next to none, but the Switch still has a thriving third party and indie scene absent from the other consoles. With backwards compatibility, the Switch 2 will be able to keep that thriving community, and the beefier specs will attract more third party developers who don't want to waste 3 billion dollars on a 10 year long PS5 dev cycle.

Third party support has never been Nintendo's strong suit and the Switch is no exception... Hence all the remakes of old Nintendo games. Do you realize how empty the 2024 Switch release schedule would have been without them ? Just count how many actual new exclusive Switch games have been released this year.

I don't think indie games, no matter how good they might be sometimes (although 90% are shovelware), are the reason anyone buys a Switch, especially when all these indie games are released on other platforms anyway.

And for the record I am personally all for retrocompatibility btw. But I think it's just not a viable option for Nintendo at this point if they release a new console. A new retrocompatible console is bound to be a new Wii U disaster.

The switch is 7 years into its life cycle, of course it's going to have fewer new releases when they're gearing up for a new console release. Backwards compatibility has nothing to do with a console's viability. What matters is having actual games on the console, which is not exactly something Microsoft and Sony are good about.

People don't buy a console just for the indie games released on it, but having a healthy indie scene leads to more games releasing for a console so people are more inclined to buy that system, and the more people who buy a system the more people who develop for that system.

The Switch has almost 5000 games in its 7 years, while the PS5 has less than a thousand in four years. The Xbox console has less than 600 in that same amount of time. I would say that that means the Switch has good third party support.

For comparison, the PS4 has around 3500 total games in its 11 year lifetime.

Backwards compatibility has nothing to do with a console's success. What matters is that console having games, and rereleasing switch games on the switch 2 will just lead to people not buying into the new console, because why buy it when it only has the games the previous switch had? That's a big reason people aren't buying into the PS5 still. The only games it's getting now are remasters of recent releases.

Just like the Switch, and just like Nintendo's new console will be. New games won't magically get cheap and quick to make anytime soon, that's the general issue here. New games take more and more time to make, they cost more and more money, so in order to keep your console profitable you need to rely on old games re-releases, no matter if you're called Sony or Nintendo.

The Wii U being a failure was actually an opportunity for Nintendo in the long run, because it allowed them to recycle all its catalog on the Switch to great success. The Switch biggest selling game, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, is a Wii U game... Let that sink. Remember the Wii U was the successor of the immensely successful Wii. See a pattern here ? The cycle is bound to repeat itself when the successor to the immensely successful Switch comes out. Why do you think Nintendo is taking so long to retire the Switch ? Because they know all of this.

And now we need Zelda twilight princess and Wind waker HD on the switch and everyone is happy.
Nah, we need Yoshi and Kirby ported to the Switch actually. Yoshi especially, seeing it's the better game between it and the Switch original Yoshi game.
