Can I softmod a Xbox? I don't have one now but I may be getting one for free

. From start to end help only!

P.S. Yes I did Google this but didn't get any step-by-step info.
P.P.S. I will NOT buy anything online so don't say "get a modchip".

Old X-box?
Yes you can. Its very easy, all you need is Splinter Cell(old one, not pandora tmorrow or anything else). And an action replay.

1) You need Splinter Cell and Action Replay

2) Download the exploits(Ndure or nKnaves softmod) from xbins. irc.efnet.net

3) Transfer the exploit into the memory card from your action replay.

4) Copy it to your xbox.

5) Run Splinter Cell

6) In the LOAD GAME list, you will see RUN LINUX, run that save.

7) Follow everything onscreen.

Yes, the softmod lets you play backups.

The Action Replay and Splinter Cell is the softmod method, and it lets you play backups.

Hotswapping is much more complicated, but costs $0. Basically, you boot the xbox, unplug the IDE cable from the HDD, hook the HDD to your PC, turn it on, boot an XboxHDM disk, copy the needed files over to the xbox HDD, and you are done.

wwwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy too many steps! I think I'll just go with PS2. But thanks.

P.S. all i want to do is play off a burnt DVD.

If you already have the right versions, it will only take 10 minutes. But tracking them down and buying them used at a local store or online is a different problem.

QUOTE(cosmo2389 @ Jun 22 2008, 02:06 PM) My Xbox fails to read anything now... I found out about softmodding a little too late... So now it just sits there...

Anyone know a way to replace the drive?

I think it is time to read the thread

1. My link shows what versions you need of the games that can be used, and it is not the Greatest Hits versions

2. You can buy a new DVD drive and they can be swapped with no modification, but you can easily use a hotswap to mod an xbox and play backups from the HDD - no DVD drive needed.

Why do I need to hook up the xbox to my router?
I cant just throw emus and games, on the AR memcard?
