Both the Xbox One and the PS4 have broken Amazon pre-order records, marking a 4000% increase of hardware sales in comparison to this time last year.

Also, the Xbox One's pre-orders went out of stock on Amazon, which doesn't necessarily indicate higher pre-order rates than the PS4, but hardware volume could be less.

With a peak of Amazon receiving 2500 console pre-orders (in unison) every MINUTE, the statement by Microsoft spokespersons that this new generation will sell a billion consoles doesn't seem so far-fetched... but Nintendo occupying a large margin of those figures still does, at this point.

I guess with the idea that you don't have to pay for it until it ships, parents have little reason not to order it for their children for the holidays.

Beyond that, not quite sure why anyone else would rush out to preorder a console.
