Homebrew XBox Media Center for Wii port?

Hey

If you owned a Xbox, you will know that a application existed called XBox Media Center, which still exists and has been ported to OSX, Linux, Windows, etc etc. It was a great application as it supported a large number of codecs and had alot of features. Would it be possible to make a fork XBox Media Center for the Wii (obviously the fork would be renamed Wii Media Center; Maybe also a combined project with MPlayer CE)?

Long story short: straight port is probably not going to happen (proof of concept barely exists and large amounts of code need to be redone) but it looks like mplayerCE is going to head somewhere (fairly decent media format support and extras (network and external drives) have been around for a while, these days it is getting to be fairly polished).
